Should I or shouldn't I ?

Hey!

My surgery is Feb 25 and it's getting here faster and faster. This has been a 2 year journey for me, so I am excited and nervous.

My question/advise is this: I have been at my job for 3 years now. I love my job it's in finance management. I have excelled and moved up pretty quickly and my boss has asked me to apply for a lend/internship within my department for the next 6 months. I would spend half of my week learning new things and possibly a promotion at the end of it.

Well my surgery is kind of at the beginning of this whole new position and my boss knows I will be out of work for 2-3 weeks and is cool with it.

The problem is that it will put more pressure and stress on me , which I try my best to manage now... Coming back after this surgery and being put in a position where I have to be at 100% immediately worries me. I would never want to be put in a position where I don't excel bc of physical and maybe emotionally not at my best.

I don't know if that makes sense. Knowing me- I will probably apply and see if they take me on. I just don't want an opportunity for my career to pass by.

How did you all do going back to work?

Well, I'm 11 days post-op. I don't work, however, you are the only one that knows if you are able to handle the challenges coming your way. I would just recommend following the doctors orders & take care of yourself.

Good luck with your journey. Keep us posted.

Only you can make this decision. I had my surgery January 8th and planned going back to work three days later. That didn't happen but each day gets a little easier. My biggest problem is that I tire easily, too easily.

Your boss seems to have faith in you and you're taking two or three weeks off to heal. Don't turn it down because you are afraid of not being 100%, take it because you know you can do it. Good luck!

I found the recovery from this surgery very easy and not very painful. I got out of the hospital on a Thursday and rested over the weekend. I went back to work Monday and was fine, I work a desk job. No way I'd turn down a promotion because I just had surgery. In 2-3 weeks you should be down 20+ pounds and feeling normal.

Do it! You'll regret it if you don't. I'm a week and a half out. I could go back, but I'm resting up.....depending on your age and previous stamina, you could definitely make it work after 3 weeks...

It took me 2 full week before I could go back, & when I did go back it was during a super busy time.

I'm the lead decorator at a cake shop, & we had a huge bridal show coming up that required a lot of time from me. My job is very physical, but I was able to get through it.

You should take the promotion. You can do it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
