If there was a link to that story i honestly did not see it , I do apologize . I did not see it. That's why i said what i said.

I thought if it was a story too long to post a link would have been helpful.

Looks like everyone has resolved the issues.

Mindy :)

Thank you. I appreciate your apology. I have not ever, not once tried to spin the facts, which is why I always provide sources and/or tell people that if they want more sources all they have to do is ask. People have accused me, here and on other threads, of quoting too much from other sources. So I tried to cull it down because it was wholly inconsequential to my point. First I get jumped on for posting too much, and then I get jumped on for posting too little.

Carrie, do you mind telling me what hospital it was? I'd like to do some research on it.

It was Memorial Hospital in chattanooga, TN. They are still open, and one of the best hospitals around, they just don't perform women's services anymore. Let me know if you find anything interesting. I would be curious to know why they closed the maternity ward.

I'm still hunting, but I did find this article which was of interest: Erlanger Medical Center/Memorial Hospital/Women's East - Advisory Opinion. As I read it, they were interested in partnering with another hospital in the area that provides obstetrical services. This request was made in 1995, 13 years after they ceased to provide such services. I'll lyk if I find more. Now that I have the year they ceased, it may get easier.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that they were co owners with Erlanger's Women's East for a few years. But they sold their share back to Erlanger while I was working there, I believe in 2000 or so. I don't remember why.

There are medical dangers on both sides of the coin - was she raped, was it incest, is she a minor....

There are philosophical questions on both sides of the coin - what if the baby is badly deformed, what if mom can't/won't take care of it, what if no one will adopt it.....

There are religious questions - if you practice religion you don't pick and choose what you practice (ie, no abortion, but what about birth control or pre marital sex)

This is really an individual decision as far as I am concerned. At the end of the day, all religious/medical/philosophical questions aside, you have to live in your own head. That is why I believe each person should make their own choice and not have it made for them.

You don't approve of abortion? Fine. I'm good with that. You want to teach your kids the same thing. Go for it. It's a free country. You want me to follow your beliefs? I'll do you the courtesy of listening. In the end, that will either show me something I did not consider, or reaffirm my beliefs.

Women have fought too long and hard for the rights we have. Let's not be so quick to give them up.

I would agree 100% were it not for the fact that in every abortion a baby dies.

Not true...though most of them yes, but sometimes they abort a fetus that is already dead...it does happen, but I know what you are saying.

Well said, Sapphiresgold. The majority of Americans feel the spirit of generosity and freedom that you explained so well.

Well sometimes multiples are aborted so I guess it evens out. And every so often, a "safe, legal" abortion kills the mother, too.

I agree with you that we all should be able to make our own decisions on things. What religion we choose, if we want a same sex partner, if we should rob a bank, etc. Do what you want because every choice we make in life has its own set of consequences. BUT, when it comes to making a choice in the abortion issue, I believe, you shouldn't get one. Simply because if you don't like not being able to have a 'choice' as an individual, how can you justify taking someone elses 'choice' away. The individual inside you. He may choose to LIVE. Pro choicers seem to forget that the baby is 'another' life besides theirs. The mom is simply the holding place till he is mture enough to come out. Sorry if she doesn't want to do that for 9 months, but that's just the way it is. After the 9 months is over and she's done her job for the child, she can get on with her life. We all go through setbacks or holds in life. When it comes to the safety of another persons life, we go the mile.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
