Welcome. There is a wealth of information to be found here. Read around, use the search feature. There are several types of WLS on this board. Different doctors have different protocols and the patients themselves vary based on health, BMI, fitness level, etc... Some of us are vegetarians, some are paleo.

In short, no two stories is a like. I personally had an uncomplicated surgery. No pain or need for narcotics in the hospital or upon discharge.

Meet with your doctor. Follow his instructions. If you don't understand something ask him to clarify. We can offer opinions, but you need to trust the person you've chosen to manage your care.

Thank you very much...totally agree with you. I trust my doctor fully, just one of the most reliable sources is people that have been through surgery. Did a 12 week course with my Healthcare and the most informative stuff was prior patients tips;)

Here's my tip. Join a gym and start working out now. I take an aquafit class 4 -5 days a week. Each teacher has a different style. Some are more yoga like, some aerobic and some focus more on weight training and core strengthening. I was in class this week and we were doing this core strengthening move and it downs on my that this may have been why I was pretty much pain free. It was a move that stretched the core and ab muscles. When I woke up in recovery I didn't have any pain. My abs were sore but I could sit up and get out of bed on my own. I didn't need to use any narcotics or pain meds in the hospital. Other than my surgeons skill I can't think of anything else that accounts for why I felt no pain when so many others did.

@@changes1

i can tell you are excited/nervous/worried about being sleeved

that's perfectly normal

but please don't go into surgery with ANY thoughts that you might fail

that's a defeated thought - KNOCK IT OFF!!

even thinking about failure - not allowed

people have been shot for less

i would practice some Water rules pre-op

you will have to do the below post op

drink at least 64 oz of Water a day

stop drinking about 30 minutes before you eat

NEVER drink while you are eating

don't drink for about 45-60 minutes after you eat

the above are very important

your NUT (nutritionist) might give you slightly different time periods to wait etc....

always ONLY listen to your NUT!!!

wean off soda

start eating small portions

watch your carb intake

eat Protein first

that's it for now

follow the above and you will pass "kathys' basic rules 101 ;)

go to the head of the class ;)

good luck with surgery :)

Haha kathys 101 tips are probably the most important to know!!! Thanks for the advice....I drink only Water just need to drink a little more...I'm almost there. The hard thing to do is eat without a drink but I've been practicing lol. I guess I'm only scared of failing because I have a few coworkers around me that have failed. My doctor said that it's good I can recognize what they are doing wrong. It looks like be prepared is the key!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
