@@lynneanne re: the bolded from your post - If there's one thing that has been drilled into my head by friends of mine who have had VSG, it's that even with the sleeve, you can still gain it back. One of my friends is 2.5 years out, one is 1.5 years out .. one has gained back over 20 lbs, and is having a b!tch of a time trying to re-lose that 20.

Anyway, I keep reminding myself of that. I'm still pre-op, but from all that I've read and heard from friends, it's critical to go into this surgery with the right mindset, and not rely on the surgery as a solution. It's just a tool, and a tool we need to work faithfully!

I hear what you are saying I see you are pre-op also. Do you feel that you will be able to keep it off?

I am a retired RN and going for my consult this Wednesday the 28th. I am 247# at 5'4". I guess I am worried that I won't lose enough weight after the surgery. Some of what I am reading is 185 pounds. I always gain it back on my own though. What are your thoughts?

My doctor told me the general 60% body weight spiel. That's fine with me. I am barely 5'3" and have an extremely high BMI.

Jersrose43 I hope i have results like yours! I have heard that the sleeve can make Gerd worse. I am going to discuss this with my MD. I am hoping that the weight loss will help with the Gerd otherwise I will have to have surgery for that as well.

It can make GERD worse. I never had any trouble with acid and now have to take 40mg omeprazole daily. I think if you are proactive and take something prophylactically you may be able to prevent it from getting worse.

What is a panni?

pannectomy or skin removal surgery

I had a perfectly fine, uncomplicated surgery. No pain, gas, nausea, etc... I don't know if its just luck of the draw or what but I've had no issues to speak of.

I'm worried about skin too! I have Medicare and they won't pay for that so no panni for me.
