YourFriendJess 34 Posted January 23, 2015 Is popcorn ever permitted post op? I know that it's not the best decision, as far as nutrition goes, but was just curious at what point it could be eaten.
BarnGirlWK 98 Posted January 23, 2015 I eat popcorn. Ate some last night. I'm five months out from VSG surgery. I ate it for the first time at about 2 1/2 months, I believe. Not a lot. I can't eat a lot (of anything). But I wanted some, made some, ate some.
Mbstas 57 Posted January 24, 2015 I get the unbuttered small version at the movies and am able to just eat 1/3 of it.
joatsaint 2,814 Posted January 24, 2015 I didn't try popcorn again until 6 months post-op. Up till then, I was eating so little that I couldn't justify the empty calories popcorn has. But I had no problem with it. I think the 1st time I ate it, I could only eat about 1/2 of a 100 calorie microwave pack. Now - 2 years later, however, I can eat a whole 100 cal pack, plus a little. LipstickLady 25,682 Posted January 24, 2015 My doctor said to wait 6 months. I love Cheddar Skinny Pop, but I can only (thankfully) eat about 1-2 cups at a time. It's a slider for most people so it can be "dangerous".

gowalking 10,790 Posted January 24, 2015 I was never told not to eat popcorn but I agree, you can eat more than you realize. I buy the 100 calorie packages so I know when to stop. I don't eat it often but once in a while, warm popcorn is a real treat.
samuelsmom 670 Posted January 24, 2015 The first time I had popcorn was about 6 weeks post-op. I enjoy it for a snack with the 100 cal. bags; especially if I am watching a movie!
Vanessa G 22 Posted January 24, 2015 I had an MGB and tried popcorn 6 months post op. I dont sit down with my own bag, but when the kids fix a bag of Kettle corn, I grab a handful. That's all I get. No problems so far.
