Chuckie 9 Posted January 23, 2015 Hey everyone, 5 weeks out today. Just having a hard time slowing down. I have the app that times you but I am realizing I have always eaten fast. How slow is slow? I am eating soft/puréed's. I'm happy with that for now. Not in a hurry to move faster than that.
onmywaytobeingfound 163 Posted January 23, 2015 I'm gastric bypass but rny and sleeve were given the same guidelines by our nutritionist team. A minimum of 20 minutes up to 45 minutes. I use the timer and take a bite every minute. Typically takes me 20 ish minutes for 1/2 cup of food ate with a baby soon. Hope this helps :-)
AvaFern 3,516 Posted January 23, 2015 So this is not the most scientific advice, but the only way I learned how fast I can and can't eat is through trial and error. When I puke, I ate too fast, when I get that choking feeling at the top of my stomach/bottom of the esophagus area, I ate too fast, and when I do not feel sick or like my food is trying to crawl back up my throat, I ate at the right speed. At 16 months out, I am still a fast eater and very frequently barf, so I could improve on this area quite a bit!

MichiganChic 3,262 Posted January 24, 2015 I don't eat any slower than I ever did. I know should, but it's just not something I ever mastered. I used to really work at, but not so much anymore. I have never thrown up and I lost 140 pounds, so I think it's ok.

I ate one bite too many a couple times and it hurt, so I learned how not to do that pretty quick. I tried using the eat slower app for awhile, and had it set for 45-60 seconds, but it was a PIA. So I just eat like I always have now (usually done in 5 min) and I've never thrown up and am well below goal, so.... alwaysvegas 702 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) I'm a fast eater, and have made some progress on slowing down to maybe 10 minutes, but I likely won't go longer than that when eating at home. I cut my Protein into small pieces and I always weigh out my food. I know that any more than 4.5 oz down too fast and I'll likely get the slimes. The only time I eat more slowly is when I eat out as I don't know exactly how much is 4 to 4.5 oz. I can't say any get any more/less enjoyment by eating more slowly, but I suppose I appreciate the taste a bit more. BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted January 24, 2015 I never used the app, but I did make a conscious effort to eat slower. I never used baby utensil, I just only put food on the tip of the spoon or fork and focused on chewing really well and slowing down. So far so good. I've never gotten sick eating. Thinkingthinner1109 485 Posted January 24, 2015 I don't eat slow and it hasn't hindered me. I have lost 125 pounds. I don't eat slow either. Can't stand cold food. My restriction is just as good as the day I had surgery. I can only eat 2 or so ounces of food. I am 5 months out and hit my goal weight yesterday. I have never puked up food. I did puke up a Vitamin one time when I took it on an empty stomach. Other than that I don't get chest pain or anything like that when I eat. It's awesome!
