Lower Calorie Calcium option

Recommended Posts

I've been using Bariatric Advantage Calcium Chews. I've been told that I need 1500 mg calcium/day (as a woman). Anyhow, each 250mg chew is 20 calories. That adds up to 120 calories per day. I would much rather be using those calories in food! Any suggestions on lower calorie calcium citrate options?

Do you need a chewable? Because I think any chewable is going to have calories. I take the store brand of Citracal Maximum that my grocery store sells. It's 630mg of calcium citrate and 500iu of Vitamin D for two capsules. I take two capsules twice a day for a total of 1260mg of Calcium and 1000iu of Vitamin D. I've had two bloodworks done since my surgery in September (one at 2 months and one at 4 months) and both came back in normal ranges for everything, including calcium and vitamin D.

They have a 500 mg chew that only comes in at 15 calories each (total of 45/day). Celebrate has some 500's that are 15 calories, too. I use both, and I track them in myfitnesspal, lol.

If you do Protein shakes and use Milk, and have it twice a day, that should do the trick. It will certainly boost your Calcium.

I don't need chews so I think I'll try the citracal. Every calorie counts! Thanks! I went with Bariatric Advantage because my surgeon's office sells it. It's good to know there are options that have worked well for others.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
