Gagging on protein shakes! Need new taste ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi. I had sleeve done on12/29! Am so happy to have it done. Have waited 10 years to have weight loss surgery and finally got it done. I am in week 4 post op and the puréed food phase. I know I need my Protein but can't seem to drink them without getting nauseous. Am doing ok with other foods and am drinking plenty of Water. Should I change brand of protein? I use the Bariatric Advantage and the mornings are the worst. Please help with ideas or tips. All greatly appreciated!!

Did your doctor give you a scrip for zofran or other anti nausea drug? if so give it time to work in the morning before drinking a shake.

I personally like the Premier Protein shakes .. I started drinking them on my own three weeks ago while I wait for my insurance approval 30g of protein.. 5g of carbs and 1g of sugar !! :) ( they were recommended by the nutritionist as a post op shake but I wanted to get used to the taste beforehand )

...I drink one for Breakfast and one for lunch ... :) It was gross the first couple of times but now it tastes like chocolate milk if you shake it well :)

Hope that helps! :)

p.s. costco is having a sale packet of 18 for $18.00 until mid February

I agree with the Premier. It's been a lifesaver. I also have trouble drinking and eating early in the morning so I typically don't start eating until around 11:00 a.m. It made all the difference. Lastly, try greek yogurt Has the same 30 grams of Protein in it and you can even add a little sugar free Syrup to change up the taste. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
