Hey Guys! - saying hello from MA

Recommended Posts

My name is Quinn and I will be getting the lap band surgery in July. Massachusetts has only been doing the lapband surgery for three or so years now. My baratric surgery team has been amazing and they want me to get in touch with others who have had the procedure. I look forward to meeting people who have the lapband procedure and how it has affected a patients life - - with firsthand accounts. Thank you so much!!!

Quinn

Hi Quinn,

Welcome to the forum. There is great advice here. Look around and check out if there is a July bandster forum started yet.

Good luck!

Hey Quinn,

I should have mentioned that there is a thread under general lapband discussions for July bands and also one for people on their 20's....again good luck!

Thank you guys so much! I'm trying to take in and research all information as possible. Its great to know there is support and information available out there. Could anyone discuss their initial recovery process post surgery? I'm committed and determined to make this weight loss tool and lifestyle change a success. I was looking for the heads up! :) Thank you all so much for making me feel so welcome.

PS - METALBAND - I'd love to talk to you about your experience at BIDMC - I happen to be getting it done there as well!!!!

Quinn,

I have had a great experience at BIDMC. Everyone was so nice and caring. My insurance would only cover out patient surgery and my doc would only do overnight so he got me out in 23 hours and it did not cost me out of pocket! That was cool! I was scheduled at 12:30, went into pre op at 10:30. Meet with docs and anesthesia etc. They explain everything.

Surgery, recovery and up to room. Next morning to radiology where you drink barium and they watch it go through your band, if all is well, back to your room where you get a little Water, a couple of hours later you get some Protein shake, and then you go home. The worst part for me was that I was very thirsty and you cannot drink anything, but that is a small price to pay!

I ended up with 7 incisions but most are tiny, One larger one for port and one medium, others will look like the size of a mosquito bite.

Port is the only one still tender.....again a small price to pay to better health!

I am one week post op and sadly I thought I would feel better by now. Do not get me wrong, I am getting better everyday but not as quick as I would like to. I had my gall bladder out 2 weeks before getting banded and I was back to work in 2 days so I had unreal expectations and being impatient does not help!! LOL Make sure you give yourself enough time to heal.....milk it for a week or two, just do not rush it!

Go to the information sessions, talk with people, ask questions, and stay on this site!!! It will give you all the information you need....and then some!

Best wishes.....I hope this helped.

Hi Quinn, and welcome to LBT! Glad you found us. I have to tell you, I honestly can say I do not think you will ever regret the decision to get the band. Every day I have it, I am so thankful for it. The recovery process is actually different for everyone. Have you had major surgery before? If so, you can kind of gage your recovery based on how you recovered from previous surgeries. Especially because everyone tends to react differently to anesthia. However, the first few days are the worst. I would say they more uncomfortable than anything. Plan on having gas X around for the gas pain. I also recommend a heating pad. It feels great both on your tummy and your port area. The first few nights I slept in the recliner because it was more comfortable than lieing down flat on the bed. After about day four, I started feeling definite improvement every day and felt completely back to myself after about 10 days.

If you have any more questions, give us a holler. Oh, and don't forget to check out the stickies at the top of most of the forums. They are filled with tons of really useful information.

Metalband - i have so far been really impressed with them as well. They are great. I also have to get my gallbladder out before the surgery. Thank you for being honest. I have committed to this and want to know the truth as to what to expect.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
