What about the skin? ?

Recommended Posts

I have a good 85-95lbs to lose, ,, if i exercise regularly, ,will there be a possibility of needing surgery for sagging skin???had anyone dealt with this? ?? I've been heavy and lost a lot of weight after my first child, ,,but i was a teenager then, ,, would i most likely need to concern myself with that now? ??

This topic is discussed a lot in different places on this site. Whether or not you'll need skin surgery depends on a lot of things, in my opinion. Your age, how much and how quickly you lose weight, and your own body image come into play as to whether or not you'll "need" skin surgery. :)

I agree with the above statement it depends on how fast you loose the weight, where you hold the most weight s well s how your weight was distributed and of course your elastic in your skin. I work out 5 days a week and so far I'm looking great and I have lost 98 pounds so far and I am 8 months post opt. My skin Is handling the lost great so just try to exercise as much as you can and then you will know for sure . I am 44 years old so I think I look great so far lol.

@@Cupcake, you give me hope! I'm also in my 40s and my starting BMI was similar to yours, and I'm working out 6 days/week. I am nervous about excess skin and am trying to be realistic - I am fairly sure there are batwings in my future! - but it's good to hear that frequent regular exercise has made a difference for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
