So I have been diabetic for years, blood sugars always 250 or higher even with medicine. I am one week postop and my blood sugar right now is 80 and I feel very sick, I forgot to ask what I can drink to bring my sugars up a little, everything I have is sugar free. Someone help?

Hello,

I'm a type one diabetic and sleeved. normal range is 70-120 fasting. I now have more low blood sugars after surgery. I use my insulin once in a great while. My dietitian gave me advice that if my blood sugar drops to drink watered down orange juice. When its watered down it doesn't upset my tummy as much. I also have glucose tablets with me when I'm out of the house.

I figured 80 is normal, but I just don't think my body is used to it. My speech seems slurred and I am very shaky. I am going to try watered down orange juice. Thank you ????

Hope it helps. It will take a while for you're body to adjust to new blood sugar levels.

I have type 2 and know what you're going through. 80 is normal (for people without diabetes) but your body is not use to such a low and that's why you're feeling bad. Check with your doctor about what would be most appropriate for you to bring it back up a little so you feel better. Hang in there! We're still trying to figure out the best combo for me. It'll take a little time :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
