What to bring to hotel

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

:help:

I am new to this site so please bare with me if this question has been answered a dozen times.

I am coming from Winnipeg to the TSWLC for surgery on July 27. We are staying in Novotel. I want to know what I should be bringing for food wise. Just the Optifast?

thanks

It should say in your pre-op package what you need to bring for food. You need to bring enough Optifast for the time that you are there. If you dont want to bring the stuff that you will need after surgery you can pick that up at the Wal-mart over a square one mall which is not too far from the Novatel. I did not like the broth after surgery, but I was very partial to the low-acid apple juice.

Good Luck,

Andrew

Depends on what the hotel has to offer in the way of microwave. I would suggest that unless you have a partner who can go shopping for you take everything with you need because the day after surgery you will be very groggy and just want to sleep. I took some chicken in the mug and used the tea maker in the room. The Holiday Inn on Bloor street does not have microwaves. Also, take your Optifast and put in some bottled Water. The hotels charge an arm and a leg for the water. If you have a hot water bottle you may want to take that because sometimes people have gas pains after sugery and a hot water bottle helps. Mainly though, it is the water that is most important. Doddie

I brought my magic bullet, cause there was no Optifast drinkin' without it being slushified with a ton of ice! I really only had some substance-less clear Soup, and apple juice in the couple days after surgery.

Try to move lots after!! It seems easy to say before...but TRUST me after, you dont want to. When i went one lady who did it and worked there told me she had bad shoulder pains because of the gas, because she just wanted to pamper herself and not move etc....my mom was on my case every hour to walk around the room for 2 mins or whatever, i was so mad everytime she made me get up. But then i didnt really have pain...so i guess it might have helped. Also, DONT DRINK OR EAT prior....this may seem like the dumbest thing, im not proud either...but i drank Water the morning of my surgery. Thankfully they asked me about it, i felt like an idiot, i had to wait a couple hours. I'm just so happy i actually got it done that day. But really....dont drink or eat, its dangerous because of the anesthetic.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
