maddoggmedic 2 Posted January 22, 2015 I have been diagmosed Hashimotos since approximately 1999 and on levothyroxine. It has bee a gradual gain of weight over the last 25 years but I went from 115 pounds my senior year in high school to 266 pounds at my first appointment with my surgeon. At the beginning of last year I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had a total Thyroidectomy with ablation. In August I had had enough ! After begging different doctors for help and being given diet pills that made me hypertensive, I did my own research and went to see my doctor for the first time. I asked for Lap Band but after my consultation the doctor recommended gastric sleeve and told me to let him know my decision after checking out both surgeries I went for gastric sleeve. After all the steps and specialists were met it was November ! If I had the surgery by the end of the year I wouldn't have to pay anything because my out of pocket was met with the cancer surgery and treatment. December 17th I had my surgery. Due to my thyroid levels being out of wack I gained more weight but with the preoperative diet and new med doses, I lost 3 pounds and the extra at day of surgery! At 2 weeks post op I had lost 20 more pounds. 5 weeks later I went back to work as a paramedic and my uniform is baggy and large on me. I will go on the 28th for my 6 week check and weight. Eating is still a challenge, applesauce is my best friend and a morning dose of Zofran for the nausea. I'm excited about this new journey and can't wait for more time to go by to lose more ! maddoggmedic 2 Posted January 22, 2015 Hello :-) I'm so glad I can say I am a survivor. Nice to meet you. I missed my job while I was out but you tend to hate it after long shifts with no breaks :-)
