I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery next Wednesday the 28th. This morning I opened my email to this:

"Hey Julie, mom says your are getting some kind of weight loss surgery. They do allot at the hospital I work at, the gastric sleeve had replaced the lap band. A girl in my department and other patients who got lap band are not happy and wish they did not do it.
The sleeve is newer so no long term feed back yet and do not get gastric bypass to many long term health risk.
Call me if you want to discuss I know losing weight is hard I need to lose 40-50 lbs but I just got get down and gritty cardiovascular exercise Portion Control no refined carbs and weight training"

Now, I love my family, but I emailed her back explaining that I had done my research and have already decided, with the help of my doctor and husband, that I was having gastric bypass. Why do people seem to think that they know how hard a decision it is to have this surgery and use it as a tool to get healthy. I am already nervous enough with less than a week to go, but I did not need this.

Thanks for letting me vent this morning, I am still determined to go through with my surgery and prove to them all that I am doing the right thing for me!

My mom fought my surgery the entire five month process up until the morning on the way to the hospital. She even had my brother call the night before to tell me why he was against it ????. Four weeks later and 44 pounds lighter, I'm my own woman. Do what is best for you!

You'll do great....and yes we all have to use the tools your cousin mentioned. You just also happened to select weight loss tool 2.0 as well for your mission. You were well aware of the resources you would need on the journey moving forward. Do you. :-)

I think most of the time they are scared for you, at least let's hope so!

it is very frustrating when people who don't know your medical history or have not done any research to understand why you have made this decision, spout off about what you should or shouldn't do. What they don't understand is that you have done your research and they also don't understand why their are different choices for different conditions.

I think most of all in this case this person could have called you to have a conversation vs. sending you an email like this one. How rude!

Just hang in there and stick to your guns. You will show them that you are in charge of you and can make this happen.

I wish you all the best on your upcoming surgery and will be sending prayers your way!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
