Have any of you ever started the process of getting the bypass and changed your mind and got t g e sleeve??? I'm done with my 6 mos supervised diet and waiting on a surgery date. I originally wanted the sleeve but because I had type II diabetes my surgeon suggested the bypass. I really want the sleeve but fear that it's too late to change my mind. Can anyone please tell me if they've been in this same situation and if so what did they do? Also your opinion and advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's not too late to change your mind. Many people with diabetes have had the sleeve. Speak with your surgeon and discuss this with him. You should not have any form of elective surgery unless you are sure it is what you want. Try doing a search here regarding diabetes and see if you can find a few post of sleeved posters who had diabetes.

I am also type 2 diabetic, I originally wanted the lap band but my surgeon thought the sleeve would be a better option for me because I would loose weight faster with less chance of regaining I did research all options before surgery and deceided he was right.. Since having my sleeve in Feb I have lost 68 lbs and gone off insulin and my high B/P meds. I know longer worry about carbs because I eat so few of them, I am usually full after I eat my Protein. Go with the one you feel comfortable with.

Absolutely discuss it more with your surgeon if you're not comfortable. My husband is type II diabetic and he had the sleeve surgery on 09/11/14. He hasn't had an insulin injection or any diabetes meds at all since we get home from the hospital. His fasting glucose level is around 95 and his A1C had fallen from 11.9 pre-surgery to 6.5 by his 3 month blood work. He will have it checked again in March for our 6 month checkup and I have no doubt that it will be perfectly normal. He no longer has to take high blood pressure meds or cholesterol meds. This surgery has been a total blessing.

Its never too late until the surgery is done. they may have to resubmit to the insurance.

i was going for the sleeve, my doctor suggested the switch. My prolbem with switch, no carbs.

sleeve you can have carbs. Sleeve has less of a chance of malnutrition and you take

Flintstone complete chewable vit. the switch you have to take more vitimans and costly.

. I asked what happens if you have the

switch and 20 years later your in a nursing home? Not enough data yet.

decided against lap band because if it didn't work they leave it in your body. they wont remove it.

sleeve to me was a no brainer

everyone has to make up their own mind and be comfortable.

Talk to your doc again. Don't know why he/she's suggesting bypass just for the Diabetes. I had Type 2 Diabetes and was on insulin and pills. A week after surgery I was able to go off all meds and after 6 months my A1C was 5.6 – not even in the pre-diabetic range. So with that type of info in hand, ask your doc again about the sleeve vs. bypass. Might there be other reasons?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
