If I hadn't seen it...I would swear

the surgeon forgot to put in the band. I saw the xrays and fluoroscope pics so I know it is there but aside from some mild pain and gas I have been fine.

I had my surgery 5/3/07 - I followed the post-op diet of one week liquid, one week mushie, ease into solids. I have been able to eat normal foods. I try to eat less and stop when I feel full; but I am not seeing any decrease in the amount of food I need to feel full. I make sure to have 50-60 grams of Protein a day (with a protein shake) plus as much water/liquid as I can fit.

But I feel fine - please tell me when I get a fill I will need less food. I am so afraid I am not going to see a difference. I have lost about 10 lbs since the surgery but I am trying not to pay attention since it is more about healing right now, then weight loss.

I know I am rambling but I am beginning to freak out. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Melissa :)

I have to head off to bed; It didn't occur to me that it was 10:30pm here. I am still not used to the time shift here - Singapore is 12 hours ahead of the US east coast.

I will check again in the morning.

Have a great day :)

Melissa

Hey Melissa,

First, let me get this out of the way, what are you doing in Singapore? How cool!

Okay, next. It's really not going to help you at all but it's the truth - everyone is different. Will you probably get a little restriction at your first fill - yes. Will it be enough? Maybe, maybe not. Here is a great example - my mother in law had her band in March. She has been able to eat exactly the same as before her sugery since 1 day post op. She doesn't eat that way, mind you. She fights it tooth and nail. She got her first fill and said she still eats a lot at meals but is not hungry in between any more. She gets another fill in 2 weeks and she can't wait. I, on the other hand, can't get a darn thing down. I have to force everything in. Can't get the darm Protein shake in, struggle with the broth and the Water is a nightmare. I've lost 9 lbs in 4 days (okay, so it's not ALL bad), but I'm MISERABLE. I mean truly miserable.

Moral of the story, you'll get your restriction. It may take 1 fill, 2 fills, or more, but you WILL get there. Hang in there....

My first fill did virtually nothing. Same with my second fill. All I could do was pretend to be a bandster and keep learning...while I ate like a pig. BUT the third fill hit my sweet spot and I've been cruising ever since....my food cravings just stopped and I felt full! Everybody's different. It's hard to wait, but after all the years of waiting for success, you're talking days, weeks, or month now. Don't kick yourself. It'll happen.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I know this isn't a magic pill or anything but I just wish I had some result. I am really trying to be patient. My first fill is scheduled for June 5th, I delayed it a week due to my 3yo DS birthday. I was worried I might be sick, or have trouble keeping things down.

I did see a posting of the post-op program from a Dr in the states, so I am going to print that out and use that as a guide. The dietician here was no help so I am a bit on my own.

Singapore is fun. My husband works for a US company and we are from Texas, we are here on a 2 year assignment. It is a great place ti live, I try to swim alot; but I have had a run on sick kids for the past few weeks so I know I need to kick it into gear in that area.

Thanks so much, it was great to log in this morning and see support from home.

Melissa

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
