:nervousHi to everyone,

I was banded on April 11 by Dr. Barry Greene at Shady Grove Hospital. I had my first fill of 4cc about 2 and a half weeks ago. I have lost 27 pounds since my pre-op liquid diet started. It is going slow but it is going.

Hey tweetygirl--welcome to LBT. I think you will find this forum very helpful in your journey--I know I have. You are off to a great start! How are you feeling since your fill? Has it helped? Sometimes it takes more than one fill to get to the proper restriction. Just remember--you don't want to be filled to the point that you can't eat real food. You have to eat to lose weight, as odd as that sounds. But, on the other hand, if you feel like you are not tight enough--get back in there and get another fill. My doc is great about that--he never makes me feel like I shouldn't be asking for a fill--only you know if you are where you need to be. What state are you in? I am in Colorado, and the weather was excellent for this long weekend. Hope you are having a nice weekend.

Good Morning! I am 52 years old and pre-op at St. Vincent Bariatric Center in Ohio. I'm 2 months into my 6 month required weight loss plan, and had my first appt with my surgeon last week.

Hi Connie,

Thank you for your reply. I am having some restricition especially in the morning. I think I eat too fast sometimes and don't chew enough because I have had some vomiting after eating. Sometimes things get stuck and I burp alot and I have no other choice but to vomit to feel better. I don't think it is because I am too restricted because sometimes I have no problems eating. I am still hungry alot in the evenings too. I have another fill in about 2 weeks.

I live in Maryland and it has been a great weekend.

Linda

Hang in there. It's too bad the insurance companies don't get if we could do this by ourselves we would already have done it. I didn't need the six months of documentation but I did give it one more try with diet and exercise before finally getting banded. I did loose around 50 pounds but I gained it back (Imagine that!). Your journey will be worth all you have to go through. I am just beginning but I already feel that way.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
