alexsisv 139 Posted January 21, 2015 Anyone fall into this category? Looking to connect with anyone who has experienced reoccurring hiatal hernias. I had my 1st repair during my sleeve sugery, then 2nd hiatal hernia repair in Dec 2014... now looks like I might be encountering #3 with the same symptoms occuring. What the heck, right?! chubbsey1 126 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Your post makes me nervous because when I go for my sleeve next month I'm also having a hiatal hernia repair. How does that work? Do they place a surgical mesh to patch it up? just curious. I know my father inlaw had a hiatal hernia repair last week and he wasn't allowed to do any sort of lifting for a month. cubgirl 14 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) I had a large hiatal hernia. I didn't know about it until after surgery. They pry your stomach away from your diaphram & pull it back down into your abdominable cavity. Then they cut off the rim of the hiatus & stich it tighter together. I must have had a hiiatal hernia since 2000 because every years since then, I had bronchitis every year, walking pneumonia one year, pertussis one year, or just constant coughing. One doctor told me I was asthmatic. I thought my lungs were just really bad although I have not smoked in over 30 years. Now I realize that my lungs & trachea were being seriously adversely affected by my part of my stomach being in my chest cavity instead of being in my abdomin. I have NO COUGH now. No more bronchitis. No more bad lungs! On top of that, I AM LOSING WEIGHT!! Life is good right now... If your hernia keeps coming back, I think that would be a scary thing. Good luck! kyrickchick64 468 Posted January 26, 2015 I had one unbiblical one when I had my hysterectomy, an hiatal one that let loose and was probably as sick as I ever want to be in my life. And I will have another repaired during my surgery on March 2nd
