Life after Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious to find out how your life changed after surgery? Did it change for better or for worse?? How are others treating you and are you completely satisfied with your decision to have surgery?? No regrets??

Seven weeks out from RNY and I feel better than in years and am doing everyday things that were very difficult before surgery. No regrets at all!

No regrets. My quality of life has improved drastically - people treat me more like an actual human being now. It's sad that I had to lose the weight for that to happen but it is what it is. I can move better and fit into places I couldn't dream of before like fair ride seats and airplane bathrooms. I feel normal finally. I hear the comments about how I took "the easy way out" but people who say that are completely ignorant to what the entire process of this surgery is so I try to remember that when I'm attempting not to punch them in the throat.

Little over 4 years post op lap band 388 to 219 (as of this morning)No Regrets. Feel great about myself. Wish I would have known more about the possible negative effects it would have with marriage and the new you. That's a frustrating battle to go through day in and day out.

Life is marvelous. The only regret I have is I did not do the surgery earlier. My husband has supported me the whole way. He loves that I feel so much better about myself. My friends treat me no different. However, sometimes I do feel that, strangers strike up a conversation with me more than before my weight loss. It may just be me. But I always think, would they have talked to me if I was at my old weight???

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
