For those that have had the revision surgery.....

Recommended Posts

For all you out there that have had the revision surgery, how long were you in the hospital for? Any feedback would be great - I've had my band in since 2008 - with the first surgery, they tried to send me home that day but I was too nauseous to walk so I spent the night. Just wondering what the average stay is for the "revisions"

I was in the hospital for 2 days. It was to make sure there was no infections or leaks or anything.

How were you feeling while at the hospital?

My surgery was at 7am. So the rest of the day pretty tired and sore but I made sure I kept up on my pain meds whenever it felt sore. I walked around some cuz they told me I had to. The next day I felt good. I was up walking around a lot. Pain wasn't too bad. Just kept my meds coming pretty regular. Then I went home the next day. I think the revision recovery was easier than when I first had the lap band.

Yes it was very easy for me. Just vomiting day one then I felt great. No pain just discomfort. No pain meds after first day. I did stay 2 days only because my doctor hadn't discharged me. I was ready to go home the next day. I love not having the band. It was uncomfortable for me then it slipped and I wasn't successful with it. The sleeve has been great but my weight loss is slow

Were they worried that the vomiting would open up the staples?

Yeah. They gave me pepid regularly too. And I get nauseas coming out of anesthesia that i had anti-nauseous meds right a way which stopped me from throwing up.

I was in the hospital for 2 days. I don't take pain well therefore it hurt for about 2 weeks. Physical and emotional pain bc I began to get scared I was going to fail again. It wasn't easy for me but it seems I'm the exception.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I was banded in 2008. For the revision was in the hospital for 2 nites. I had no issues. I'm a pain weenie but this was no problem.

I have also been nervous that I will fail on this because I had such limited success with the band. But I am older and hopefully a little wiser now and I prepared for this one differently. I was too cavalier before. Now I'm much better prepared and committed to the changes required for success.

@ i never believed there would be a day when I felt'normal' about food or would have no hunger between meals. Maybe its just that i am so newi n and recovering (10 days post op) but I can say that I've never felt like this in my life. The tiniest bit of food (or the food related substances I'm stuck with at this point) stops the hunger and I'm not craving sweets or soda or pizza. Maybe avocado. I'm looking forward to real food and if this is how I'll feel going forward, I am completely confident in my success. Embrace this choice youve made and don't fear it. I'm so happy and grateful that I could do this.

Ifein no worries, positive thinking! Try not to get yourself all stressed out. It was so much easier than I thought. The only think to worry about is having a good surgeon and being mentally prepared for the positive changes you are about to experience. You will do great

@, how are you doing today? Are you feeling good about your decision? I am now on pureed foods and feeling good. I'm wishing the weight would fall like snowflakes and am nauseated due to some unrelated medicine, but at work and feeling good. I decided to do a few other things while I was at it - whiten my teeth more, do face exercises for the droopy jowls, put on makeup for a change, and all if it is showing a little bit. I hope you're feeling well and glad for your decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
