Depending on the surgery type, malabsorption is a concern that will vary. I had RnY, so it's a very real possibility. I remember seeing all of the Vitamins I'd have to take for the rest of my life and wondered how I could make it all "work". But, it's been very easy once it just becomes part of your new life.

Dumping, too, is something that's very individual. Some folks here get it with the tiniest bite of sugar, and some can eat anything they want with no ill effects. I'm very grateful that I've never dumped either...but then again, I'm too afraid of it happening to have tried anything that could cause it ;)

I had RNY and I don't dump but eating too much (even a bite) gives me nausea and I did vomit a few times because I tried to push more then the 1/4 cup of food early on. It's just hard to believe you can only eat 1/4 cup at first.

During the holidays I did have some fudge and it made me light headed. I think if I had eaten a bunch I would have dumped but a bite I can handle. For example I drink tea with a teaspoon of sugar with no problem. I don't do it very often. Eating healthy is surprisingly easy when you don't have the raging hunger.

Hi vegas2013, I consider myself a dumper. I at least know when it's coming so I've haven't had any embarrassing moments. Have you had the sleeve done yet or are you still undecided?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
