Hi- I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Twice now I have passed out. I have narrowed it down in my head to dehydration. Both days that this happened was on a Saturday and on the weekends sometimes I forget to drink my Water like I should. I have talked to my doctor about this but she said she hasnt seen this be common in post surgery patients and referred me to a neurologist but just interested if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks!!

Last August, at my 9 month mark, I got really sick with something or another and was sick all day and through the night. After my third explosive (both ends) trip to the bathroom, I did not make it back out. I passed out and hit my head on the bathtub (about 1:30 in the morning, and was out for an hour). I finally woke up and tried to call my man, but the bathroom door was shut, the bedroom door was shut, and the window air conditioner was on. My voice was faint because I was weak, and he could not hear me.

I tried to get up and passed out a second time....hitting my head on the bathtub a second time, and was out about an hour and a half. At about 4:00, I came around again and finally stumbled my way to bed. I fell asleep and did not wake up until he had already gone to work. Sparing some other details and scoldings from my daughters and doctors, I ended up in the ER with an overnight stay for fluids. They were sure it was dehydration, but I had to wear a heart monitor for 30 days.

Lessons learned: Try not to get dehydrated.

Don't lay down and go to sleep afeter a concussion, let alone two.

Call the doctor or 911 instead of waiting three days.

Don't take passing out lightly. There was a guy on the forum a while back who passed out and busted his jaw.

Yup this happened to me in he beginning. I started drinking Gatorade so I could keep my blood sugar up and stay hydrated. It made a huge difference in how I felt.

I'm still pre-op but I have always been prone to fainting. Because of my size people always assume I'm diabetic, but it's actually due to low blood pressure. If I'm dehydrated at all or miss a meal, down I can go. Stay hydrated and be mindful of not standing up too fast. Those two things have really helped me!

Electrolytes! Get G2. Nothing wrong with your head or nervous system. Lol

If you get too dehydrated, see your surgeon. I am sure the hospital can pymp you up with one iv sitting.

I've never had diabetes or sugar issues but was sleeved on 12/12 and they came in at 4am to draw my blood. They got the results and my blood sugar was low, it was 60. The nurse told me this is very rare and they don't see it often. She asked me if I felt dizzy/light headed and I said a bit. She came in with this humongous syringe and I asked her where she was putting that & she said in my IV...they put in way too much and spiked my sugars at 190. I got released once they got them under control. My dad, who is an MD told me I can't have everything sugar free...he had me drink a little orange juice diluted with ice chips/water when I was home...or a G2 Gatorade. I asked my doctor if this would be an issue in the long run, he told me we'd draw labs on 2/25 when I come back & see how I was doing. As for now I always have a G2 Gatorade in my purse and a pack of lifesavers, just in case!

Another possibility to keep in mind, especially if the "almost passing out" comes right after you stand up, is orthostatic hypotension. A fair number of post-wls patients get this condition due to the rapid drop in blood pressure after surgery.

It happened to me after surgery. I ended up in the ER and there was nothing wrong with me. Come to find out, I was not eating enough calories. It stopped when I increased my intake.

I also am fainting while waiting for a table at a restaurant. Tonight was the second time for me too. Will check with doctor on Monday. Thanks for all the ideas, feeling like I'm not alone in this is nice. ☺️

Well, I went to the doctors today. My blood pressure was 82/56, which is kinda low. She gave me and EKG and took my blood pressure laying down, sitting and standing and it was doing the opposite of what it was suppose to do. When it came down to it she said I need to drink the 64 oz of Water and eat a little more salt. I was slacking on my Water in take. She's sending me for an EEG just to make sure I didnt have a seizure because when I passed out, both times I urinated on myself. Super embarrassing. But for the most part I have to drink more water. Thanks for all the replies!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
