When will I actually see a change?

Recommended Posts

I know that it won't be instant but about what time will I notice a change. When will I be able to buy smaller clothes. I am a month and a week out and I can notice my pants are loose but not to the point where a smaller size will fit. From personal experiences can anyone give me a tiny time line or a glimpse of what I can expect. I know everyone is different. I am following everything my dr tells me to a T. Surgery date 12/15/14. Thanks in advance.

I needed new pants after losing approximately 30% of my excess weight. I've stuck with the same tops, I'm trying to only buy one or two new clothing items for each size since I'm down another size every other month or so.

I started at 4 months had a lot to lose, now at 10months someone called me skinny,it felt so good, very few people know I had surgery this person does not,I still have40 lbs to reach my goal to date I have lost 100 -it depends on the person, everyone is different,I.am only 5-2 if your tall I believe you could tell sooner

At 30 pounds down, other people started to notice that my face was thinner. I waited until 40 pounds down to do my first closet flush. At 50 pounds down, I finally could see a difference myself, and did a second closet flush. At 66 pounds down, I have gone from 22/24/ or 2X/3X to 14/L. There is a pair of size 12 white skinny jeans in my closet, just waiting on that next jump down.

Hang in there. Even if you will be a slow loser like I am, just stay with your program. At 13 months, I am losing by milligrams instead of pounds, but the scale is going in the right direction.

Although some family said they were seeing a difference at 20- 30 lbs it was about 50 lbs when I looked in the mirror and started to see the difference. Another motivating difference is watching how clothes fit as I move to smaller sizes. At my peak I was wearing 3XL shirts and even they were getting tight, they were big in the shouders but I needed that size to get it around my belly. Now I'm in XL and everything looks so much more proportional.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
