Interesting read.

I thought so, too. It's nice to know for those people out there that may be having difficulty with an overstretched pouch, that they don't have to gain it all back, there are options for them.

There is an amazing ebook by Pamela Harrelson for 5.99$ that addresses how to deal w/ a stretched pouch, RNY 'stopped' working, etc A phenonal read that really helps us find out way to keep losing. The book is called " Practical Advice for Litetime Maintenance After Bariatric Surgery" Helped me greatly!!

This was a good article. But what stuck out to me was that she said, "I thought I was cured,...I thought I could eat like regular people."

Just based off of what I have been researching for a few months, I know that I will never be able to eat how I do now (before surgery). I don't understand the mindset that going back to old ways and eating like someone with a regular stomach is okay after RNY? I may be naive since I have not even had my surgery yet but I know this is a lifelong commitment.

My surgeon told me to expect to gain around 25 lbs after hitting my lowest and after my body adjusts. She said it can take years, but to expect it.

Some ppl realize, once you have your surgery and getting to goal and staying there. .. ppl live. Not just on sugar free, fat free and lite stuff only. Ppl become less rigid. It's really hard to explain if you haven't been there yet. But you can become lax to a point. @@SAD HATTER is right. That happens. But. . Eating bread at 3 weeks out is insane. Smh

I had been on every diet under the sun, and I always put the weight back on because I went back to my old bad habits. I'm 2 years out and have regained 10lbs since my one year follow up because, well, I went back to some bad habits. I got lazy. I didn't think it would happen; in fact I swore it wouldn't before I had my surgery. I also swore it wouldn't every time I dieted too. My two year follow up is Thursday and I know my surgeon will still consider me one of his biggest success stories because I keep fighting the good fight. I show up at support groups, and I'm doing so much better than I would be if I hadn't had surgery. Do I wish I'd done everything perfectly and didn't gain weight? Of course. Do I wish I didn't struggle with binge eating disorder and stress eating? Of course. I have a wonderful therapist and nutritionist who are helping me through this, but I never expected surgery to solve all my problems. I knew I'd have to put in the work. And I am.

Oh, and I was completely on plan for the first five months, and got to the weight I am now. Then I had a hysterectomy, and that was the first of a few setbacks. I never thought I would fall back into old behaviors but it happens. The difference between before and after surgery is I know too much now to let it get out of hand, and of course, I still have a pouch.

amen girl,17yrsOut,They will not let me blog in on Veterans,Why I don't know my guess I will tell it like it is you don't have surgery and presto your skinny for life,You loose weight and you think Wow that was easy then you start feeling oh I can eat some of this and that and pie,Ice cream,Pizza,Steak,All the yummy food and wow not bad for a while maybe a year maybe two them all of a sudden wow 10 lbs I can get that off then 50# then wow your out of control,Sure you still got your little pouch but you can still enjoy all those yummy foods and and weight comes on and bam,Your gaining weight and not so easy to take off.Well that's probably why they won't let me on the vet blog. Cause I tell the truth and believe me,It's not a magical surgery,Believe me! Seventeen years and still learning and working at it!!

Linda, you need to go and update your profile with your surgery date. You are still listed as preop, that's why you can't post in the veteran's forum.

Rny dawn... I agree completely. I don't understand why some people immediately go back to the old way of eating. I was in support group the other day and a lady wasn't even 3 months out & she was eating garlic bread! Of all things! bread. Lol.

Good luck on your journey!

We had one in group a few months ago who was about 1 1/2 months post op sleeve and was eating M&Ms.

Good Lord!! I couldn't even imagine wanting to even try to eat any type of candy. The feeling and pain (dumping) you get from it IS NOT WORTH IT!!!! It took me over a year to even introduce meat!! and i have never reintroduced candies or sweets!!! Geeze!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
