Psych Visit Questions??

Recommended Posts

I have a visit with the psychiatrist on June 1st, what sort of questions did they ask you all during the visit?:drum:

It's not a big deal. I was asked a few questions by the psychologist and then took an MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), a personality test that is basically multiple choice or T/F. My surgeon’s office required every lap band candidate to undergo this test. For most people who are mentally healthy, the test is very easy and even sometimes humorous. It seems like every third question (which is to be answered T or F) is, "Someone is following me" or "Somene is stealing my thoughts."

Don't sweat it.

A few questions that I was asked:

· What is my family history?

· Do I live in a supportive and safe environment?

· Is my husband supportive about the surgery and willing to accept the changes?

· Why I think that I'm overweight?

· Questions about my eating habits.

· How do I think the surgery will change my life?

· My general expectations of the surgery.

Hope this helps, good luck!

They always ask you to do this... it went fine. The questions were to make sure I had realistic expectations, and wasn't being pressured... also to make sure the family supported this descision. You'll be fine.

Felicia,

I had to complete several questionaires, on behavior, history and knowledge of nutritian. Some of them were interesting and before answering I had to think what they wanted to hear, sounds manipulative but wasn't. But if you feel like you have failed to big and you were Never able to control your eating, I felt when talking to the psyhologist, that would have been a bad thing. They wanted to know like others said you have the correct motivation, knowledge of some nutritian and awareness of your triggers. You would think that this would disqualify you, but it supports it.

Does this make sense? the person I saw was recommended by my surgeon, so I think they work together. She had experience doing many of the evaluations.

Good luck! This was not stressful. Try to relax.

Janine

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
