I'm paying 14500 here in Orlando. I had decided to take a year off college to earn the money and was really in the dumps, and then my mother told me she would front the entire cost and I could pay her back in monthly increments. I'm very, very grateful, because so many people need it just as badly and don't have the same family support.

I looked into Mexico, but as a nurse, I've seen too many horror stories of people traveling abroad for surgeries gone bad (although it seems the WLS docs frequented by people on this board are awesome). I'd also be petrified to be in a foreign country by myself.

It's amazing how fast and easy the process is for self pay. A lot of the people I've met at the same office have to wait up to five years for their surgery, which is ridiculous!

Also a couple of $10,500.00 cash options in Texas. They also have the hiatal hernia price if they find a hernia (this drops the cost to between $3500 - $5000).

Can you tell me which doctors or clinics do offer the hiatal hernia price? My ins won't cover WLS surgery, but I have been told by my PCP that I have a hiatal hernia. This might be the route for me. Thanks!

@@ronimom Dr. Clayton Frenzel has a cash price of $10,500 and hiatal hernia price of $3500.00. Both of these options are listed on his website.

True Results has similar prices as Dr Frenzel for both options.

Dr. David Kim is a little more, around $15,000 cash price and $5,000 hiatal hernia price.

@@BrownEyedTxGirl - Thank you for the information. I could not find the pricing information on Dr. Frenzel's page, but I sent them a message via their website.

I contacted True Results (in St. Louis) earlier today but they said I only qualified (insurance-wise) for the lap band. They referred me to another doctor in the area, but I have yet to contact him.

I also spoke with someone from Dr. Kim's office. They did not mention the hiatal hernia option and quoted me a price around $14,000. She said the special on their website ($4900) is generally for local people because it requires 4-5 office visits. I am 5-6 hours away from them. She is going to look into my insurance and get back with me later this week.

I will continue to look around. I was set to go to Mexico until I read about the hiatal hernai option. Since my PCP has told me I have a hiatal hernia, I was hoping this might be my solution to stay in the US. We shall see!

I had mine in Tijuana and it was a great experience. Probably paid $5,000 by the time you add airfare and food and such.

I don't know if I have a hernia or not. But I can't afford $15,000 right now. $3-5,000 is doable. I pray something works out for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
