First fill today. Help needed.

Recommended Posts

Got my first fill, .5 cc today after almost 2 years having the band. I wasnt really educated on the fills. The new doctor I went to today wasnt really interested in talking after he put my fill in. I know Im supposed to have two days liquids and 2 days soft before returning back to normal, but can I take my pills or do I have to dilute them in Water.< /p>

Hi, I've had loads of fills over the years and have never needed to return to a liquid diet or even knew that you were supposed to. If you were able to swallow you pills before I'm sure you will be fine. 0.5 cc is only a small fill.

When I get a fill, I bring and take two Arthritis Tylenol caplets during the fill. If I can swallow them, I'm good to go. I won't leave the office if I can't.

Another question is, how often do you get fills and when do you know you need one

Your doctor should have discussed this with you. You should also be going in for regular checkups. But to answer your question if you are eating correctly (Proteins first then veggies chewing well and taking your time to eat) you should only be able to eat a cup or so of food at a meal. If you can eat more than that without feeling restriction you should get a fill. Can you chug a glass of Water? If so you need a fill.

Ive always been able to chug a glass of Water. Ive seen 2 doctors and neither one have discussed the fills with me. I switched doctors and the new one put my fill in and was gone out of the room in under 10 seconds. I really dont like the new doctor at all.

I've had five fills, have 7.6 cc in my 14 cc band, and I'm in the green zone.

I have always been able to chug a bottle of Water. Eating Protein first, yes, about a cup of food comfortably should be it. Don't eat between meals, and if you're in the green zone, you will stay satisfied for 4-5 hours between meals. If you're not snacking and you're getting hungry earlier than 4 hours, you may need a fill. If you're snacking, it doesn't apply because you're keeping your appetite revved up all day.

Amazed at the lack of interest those docs showed. I got a fill about every 4-6 weeks for 1 year. I used Water as a good judge as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
