I am seeing people write that their surgery is about 90 minutes long....

I am having a gastric sleeve done on February 16. I was told by my surgeon that it averages about 5 hours long. What about you?

My surgery was 2&1/2 hrs long. Is your doc going to repair a hernia? Was it the doc who told you 5hrs?

My Dr. told me about 3-4 hours. I went in at 10a and woke up at 2:30p in recovery. I didn't have any other surgeries with it. No complications. They did a leak test while I was under.

I feel great! I felt sore after my surgery. For me the first two weeks were hard. I couldn't wait to get the drain out! It went pretty fast and I couldn't imagine it would have been this successful! How are you feeling? When Is your surgery?

I was told 2-3 hours. I was also told that open procedures are shorter, ,around 90 minutes.

I don't understand why people are going home with drains. I guess this is another indication of how each surgeon is different. My drain will come out before they discharge me.

I never had a drain at all. I assume a leak test happened while I was under. I am 20days post op and it has been a very easy recovery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
