Hungry all of the sudden...

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 5/10 and until yesterday I have hardly been hungry. It seems like all of the sudden I can just eat. It somewhat scares me. Now when I say I can just eat, I am still on mushies but I don't seem to get full so quickly.

For example, we went to the zoo today and I was doing fine until I got home... I felt like I could eat the world. I was so hungry!!

Is this normal?

Hey Crystal--this is completely normal. When they put your band in, they do not fill it. This time is meant for healing. When you are able to start getting fills, you will really notice a difference. Just be patient, and use this time to heal. I might suggest that while you are on the mushie stage, you try to get as much protien and Fiber as possible, to help you feel full longer. that is what worked for me. Just hang in there--it will get better, I promise.

Crystal, don't be scared :drum: It does seem to happen overnight, all of a sudden you feel an increase in hunger.

My advice would be to add in more Protein, maybe a shake between meals - or yougurt, cottage cheese.... something that will be filling until your next mushie 'meal'.

I cringe to admit it, but a week or so before my 1st fill I indulged in a 6-in subway sandwich... that was before I had restriction, but I still don't know why I felt the need to test the rules. I've never tried it since, and tried my best to get a fill at regular intervals.

Don't be discouraged, I think it's normal... means your healing and the swelling is going down. You might check with your Dr's office on Tuesday, maybe they'll say you can go ahead to the solid phase?

Connie & Karla,

Thank you both so much for the advise and encouragement. It did just seem to happen over night, yes it's kind of scary.

I can start solids on Friday so I think I'll work as hard as I can to get through this. I'll try adding a Protein snack in to see if that helps. If I can just maintain my loss until my first fill - that's being successful to start!

Thank you both again :drum:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
