harley_quinn25 80 Posted January 19, 2015 Hi, I'm new here and I have read a few boards and I see everyone is beyond helpful in some way. I'm 25 years old and live in Westchester, NY. I went for my seminar December 10, 2014 And have my first appointment with the surgeon January 23☺️was wondering for those in NY with emblem health how long after your first appointment did you get a date? What are the pre surgical requirements that need to be completed beforehand? Thanks so much!!
merry1126 42 Posted January 19, 2015 I live Westchester also. Do you have private or managed medicaid? If its managed medicaid, the requirements are six months of visits, psych consult plus clearances( GI,Cardiologist, sleep study) and a letter from the PCP. I started this process with HIP/Emblem but had to switch insurance but the requirements were the same. I haven't been given a surgey date yet.

harley_quinn25 80 Posted January 19, 2015 I heard its 6 months through the Pcp and 3 months through the surgeon. I'm definitely opting for the surgeon
merry1126 42 Posted January 20, 2015 Sorry for the late response. I started in September so next month will be six but I'm still getting my paper work in order. If/when I get an approval then the office will schedule a date

merry1126 42 Posted January 20, 2015 I think you maybe right about the three month wait if with a surgeon according to this http://www.emblemhealth.com/~/media/Files/PDF/_med_guidelines/MG_Bariatric_SX_c.pdf But its best to see what the surgeon tells you. Either way you will be surprised how quickly the time will pass. Best of luck.
harley_quinn25 80 Posted January 20, 2015 @@merry1126 thank you! I couldn't find this anywhere very helpful. I don't believe I have any comorbidities but I do have asthma and my bmi is over
merry1126 42 Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) You"re welcome, @@harley_quinn25 Usually having a BMI > 40 is all you need, if its <35 then comorbidities are needed. Edited January 20, 2015 by merry1126
