Should I send the hubs home, or have him stay and wait?

Recommended Posts

My hubs is a worry wart. I do believe some friends from work will be there to wait for me to go the recovery room, for support. So, he'll have people there who know me that he can chat with. But, last time I had surgery, when I came out of the anesthesia, I was a raging b*tch. I don't want to be that way toward him. It's bad enough that he is "having" to support my decision to do this without yelling at him right out of recovery. I think this happens because of the estrogen thing. You see.....I don't make estrogen. Had all that stuff removed 30 years ago, so I wear a patch. From what I understand, I have to not wear my ""sanity patch" for 2 weeks prior to surgery and 2 weeks afterward, to avoid blood clots. So I will go through menopause, which I have never had to do in my life so far. (I'm 52) What do you think. Call him when I'm sane? Or just hope for the best, and make him stay? He'll be a worrywart no matter what.

What jumps out to me, is this statement

"It's bad enough that he is "having" to support my decision"

He should support your decision willingly. Does he not want you to have the surgery? Just a question that came to my mind.

He didn't at first. He does now. In fact, he is telling people now, and helping me pick up stuff I'm going to need. He recently retired, so he is practicing bariatric recipes. It's super cute. I didn't word it right. So, yes he does now.....whole hardheartedly.

Do you know for sure that you'll need to stop the patch? I was concerned about hormones as well. I am on continuous birth control for very bad endometriosis, and I have not had a period in 14 years. When I do, I'm bedridden the pain is so horrific.

I brought this up to my surgeon, who said that he doesn't have a problem with me staying on. Speak to your surgeon - you may be able to stay on, with extra precautions taken to avoid clots.

Call him when I'm sane?

@@wannaBthinsoon

i'm 3 years PO

if i waited til I was sane

I still wouldn't be talking to my sweet hubby :o:lol:

can't let him off that easy :D

how did hubby react after your previous surgery??

did he understand your "anesthesia" situation???

when you yelled and acted like a bitchhh ;) was he ok, understanding??

if the answer is yes, let him in, he cares about you ;)

he is your sweetie, and probably wants to know 1rst hand how things are going??

if he didn't love your temporary "attitude" - keep him at a distance for awhile!!!

who knows, maybe you'll be fine after surgery

acting like a cutie that i know you are ;)

glad he is being supportive :)

practicing recipes for you - that is great :)

sounds like he is a "winner" :)

good luck

speedy recovery :)

kathy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
