Weight loss after sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit discouraged. Had the sleeve on 12-17 and have only lost around 16 lbs. That's being generous. Is it only going to go slower from here? Shouldn't this be more?

I've been following the Protein and Vitamin guidelines..

It varies from person to person. Some people are fast losers. Some are slow and steady losers. Are you getting all your fluids and exercising? Are you logging your foods? Eating processed foods? There are many variables.

16lbs in a month is fantastic. Relax. Its going to come off. Its going to stall, its going to fall off like crazy, then it will level off and just when you think youre going to move right along its going to stall again. Welcome aboard the rollercoaster!

I had my sleeve on 12-19 and I have lost ZERO after week 1. so tracking food, liquids and Protein has not made any difference. I walk the dogs everyday and do stationary bike 20 minutes each day. I am going tomorrow to join a gym and get a trainer now that I am 4 weeks out from surgery. it is really hard to eat so little and have no changes. I am staying away from the scale and using sparkpeople website to track food, exercise and measurements. I guess the difference in having a diet that does not work and the sleeve is that I can't quit the sleeve.

@@tart - Glad to see you hanging in there! It's my understanding that the weight loss can be slower for those with lower BMI's.

I also had surgery on 12/17, and have lost 17 lbs. I'm doing everything I'm suppose to do as far as diet and exercise. Staying patient, staying on plan, and doing my best to shrug off the silly worries that roll through my brain.

What were you expecting to lose? This isn't a contest, your body is desparately making adjustments, do what you're supposed to and take the journey, you will reach your goals.

Gotta love expectations... As already stated (I am not trying to be mean) but to have an expectation on how you're body will react to the surgery is crazy... Unless of course you've had this done before. Just because Dixie lost 10 her first month or Jaimie lost 25 his first month does not equate to what you will lose. Each body has been treated differently all its life. You cannot base it off of someone else.

Your loss is based off your situation, what you eat or have eaten, your exercise or lack of, and not just right now... But all your life, what you've put in to it. Dies that make any sense?

So stop worrying about where you THINK you should be and concentrate on what you KNOW you should be doing and let your body work it out.

Along this topic, there will be stalls.. Know it. This is when your body is recalibrating. Let it do it. Stay on the program. It will happen. Think about how kids grow... They get chubby and stumpy then sprout like weeds and thinning out. We will lose pounds on a scale then you will lose inches from your body. Then the pounds will move again. This cycle continues until your BODY chooses to stop (if your following the plan).

If you are working out, remember you need more Protein and calories, our your body thinks you are going into starvation mode...

All of this can be confirmed with your doc or but... To which I strongly encourage open communication with...

Peace friends. :)

Sorry I haven't checked in for a while; homework and RL :-)

Not too bad, I guess. Since surgery, have been a slow and steady loser. It seems to stall for several days, then a couple lbs down.

About 1.75 months out and have lost 28 lbs.

Will try to keep up with the exercise and the Water, I noticed that helps and I haven't been doing too much of those two when it stalls.

Hi All. I'm new to the forum and was just sleeved February 3, 2015. I have a related question: When did you start losing/ how far out after surgery? I'm still on liquids and am really hoping my losing will pick up the pace when I can add foods in.

@@Soready2lose As someone said previously, we all lose at a different rate. I pretty much stalled straight after surgery. Two weeks later I saw a small loss...then stalled again. I stall pretty regularly, to the point that I'm surprised to see a loss. I am also only 30 pounds away from goal so my rate of loss is going to be much slower than someone who is 100 pounds from goal.

Thanks @ProjectMe. You're the first person I've seen say that they stalled right away, just after surgery. And that seems to be my issue too. I was just seeing most people posting losses within a week or so of surgery, so I panicked. ????

I am four days out from surgery and have not weighed myself since they did it in the hospital post-op. I think this will be one of my biggest challenges--to not let the scale define my success for me. After 35 years or so of letting the scale dictate my mood, I am going to have to gauge my success based on NSVs like having more energy and stamina, fitting more comfortably into my clothes, airplane seats, roller coasters, etc. and just having a better quality of life. I hope you all see great success, both on the scale and off!

@@Soready2lose I can't say for certain. I try to stay away from the scale and focus on eating well and exercise. I was weighed at my 2 week f/u, 6 weeks & 3 mths. I went to my primary last month and was weighed. I have a doctor's appointment next week and I may get weighed there. Otherwise I won't get weighed again until my 6 mth f/u. The good part about doing it like this is if I am experiencing stalls I don't notice them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
