General Opinion for Relative New Sleever

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

It's officially one month post-op for me and I am down 24 pounds from surgery (72 lbs in total when including what I lost before.)

I'm looking for a general opinion. I'm in my very early twenties, and constantly running around school, to then do about 3 miles at the gym (sometimes more or less it's subjective), and then go home to complete homework. This exercise has been approved for me.

I let my diet slip into the lower range of calories (around 600 calories, with 300 being burned off at the gym) and with how much I was going to the gym I became very sick. I bumped up what I have been taking in, adding a little more calories to my shakes, getting fuller calorie sports drinks, a little more carbs in my 1/4 cup of food. Honestly I instantly began to perk up; the feeling of being lightheaded constantly, faded. I also saw my weight begin to drop again, as it had stalled out for a few days.

Now I'm around 1,000 calories, 64ish oz of liquids, at least 60 grams of Protein, plus the 3 miles/45 minutes or so at the gym. And soon with the addition of weight lifting when I'm cleared.

Has anyone else experience this pattern in their diet? Does anyone else feel like they could do a whole lot more exercise? I feel really held back at the moment by my routine but I don't want to over extend myself.

Sorry about the amount of writing, thanks for any advice.

It varies for each individual. Many factors come into play such as age, genetics, sex, how much weight you need to lose, etc... that there really is no definitive answer. I started back exercising at 3 weeks post op. I know work out 4 -5 days a week. However I am 51 and menopausal. I know my body and I know that I have to both watch what I eat AND work out or I don't lose. I began trying to improve my health 3 years ago and learned quite a bit about what sort of proper nutrition and exercise my body needs. For example I learned I have to eat before and after the gym for the best results.

I think if it makes you feel good and you're still losing, go with it. None of us did this surgery to feel miserable or sick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
