allyray 108 Posted January 18, 2015 Tonight, a very dear friend of mine and her hubby came to visit us and I don't see her very often, so I chose to tell her about my upcoming surgery. Needless to say she was shocked. She desperately tried to talk me out of it. Asked me if I would try one more time to go to weight watchers, go to the gym , etc... I told her thst I'm 45 years old and yes have had great success with all the programs, etc... But each time the weight came back on and more so the time is now to get something done. I came to a realization tonight that people are not so much angry with me for doing this, they are more just worried about the surgery, etc... I realize some will never understand "why" even though I try to do my best explaining so I really need to just not listen to them.
Slimsoon1988 123 Posted January 18, 2015 Most of my friends I told worried more about the surgery and how it would affect my health afterwards. Even though I've explained this surgery will have more pros for me moving forward.. I think our friends care about us and are just worried. So I have decided not to tell anymore people because I don't need the added stress before surgery. Especially since I'm 100% committed to doing the surgery. jenbaby75 283 Posted January 18, 2015 I think that there is a fear because bypass has had so many issues, and not always right away. My own family doc was relieved when I said I wanted to get sleeved, that he has had 2 of his patients die after bypass. The sleeve is new, and people just do not know about it, or don't know much about it.

allyray 108 Posted January 18, 2015 Yes I definitely think it's a fear. But honestly I am having a super hard time getting any support from people, not that I've told many but the ones I have told, they know next to nothing about it so it's a very hard concept for them to grasp. Just gives me doubts etc... I really need to do this but wondering if lack of support makes it difficult during revovert
