Food addiction realization

Recommended Posts

So I love food, I do. I get out of control and eat a lot of it which is why my weight had gotten out of hand and wls was a solution to get my life on track and actually start living it(I'm 22)

I'm one day post op and am really starting to get sad about not being about to eat certain foods for awhile.

I'm steadily starting to realize my food addiction was way out of hand.

Granted I'm feeling regret for the surgery and a bit bitter because I haven't eaten since Thursday so I am honestly pretty hangry(hungry and angry) right now, lol.

I didn't think I would ever feel regret but I know this was the right decision. I want to get my life together now, before I am diagnosed with something and it becomes too late.

I'm really hangry(hungry and angry) though!!! And all I see is food everywhere!

Sorry, I just needed to vent. I did all this research to mentally prepare myself for a vsg but seriously it is completely different living it.

I am pretty excited to try new recipes and I am determined to get fit and keep the weight off but by god these first couple of days are leaving me in a funk.

If you can, do what I did to avoid seeing food. I didn't watch commercial TV. I loaded up my DVD player and watched movies and seasons of TV shows. I wanted to avoid thinking about food at all costs.

And I too was angry. Don't know what I was angry about, but I really really wanted to fight everyone for those 1st 10 days post-op.

I got to the point where I had to avoid cooking shows and simply turned from certain commercials. A word of caution. If you think you need it get counseling for your food addiction. Don't think you need to rely on willpower alone.

I haven't been able to stop watching food network and I would consider trading my own mother for a piece of pizza right now. Lol. No I'm serious. ????. It doesn't help that I'm hungry almost all the time. I eat and I'm full so fast. I feel like I go from full to starving and there is nothing in between. Clearly I need to figure out a better eating schedule.

I'm still in the hospital and can only have liquids. I'm really bitter about not "eating" but it was worse right after surgery because I wasn't allowed to drink anything.

Today I think I can eat puréed food which will be better than liquids and I might not feel like I want to kill everyone, lol.

It just put into reality the extent of my addiction and how food plays such a large role.

Omg this is EXACTLY how I feel

... half of me is elated about having this surgery (4 weeks out) the other half of me is sad maybe even depressed because I lost my best friend which is food. .. the surgery helps work the amount you eat but not with the cravings at all. ..

On day two post-op I had several hours of WTF?!

And then it passed. And I was OK and back in the saddle again.

Aww, I know the feeling! My family tries but their eating is starting to bug me! My mother eats relatively healthy and I found myself craving her veggies and grits!

My father and sister on the other hand eat sweets and junk and that is just so unhelpful because I'm craving hard!

@@JustJaime5 I'm experiencing that now I eat stop before I'm stuffed then hours later I'm hungry. Talked to my dietitian and she said it's the small amount of food that I'm eating once I'm able to eat a full meal that will stop. So hopefully that will work for you too :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
