I was 37 with three kids when I did the surgery and I have no regets.. It has changed my life in so many ways... Yes I eat different but the trade off is so worth it... My kids and I can do things together, mom can dance and even help around the house without having to take so many breaks..I just got my first teaching job and I can teach all day and come home and still have time for them.... Do what is best for you... Is what you have now the life you want for yourself and your kids? I wanted more for them then just taking care of their mom, I wanted to be able to care for them...

I'm the same Jk. I started this process 12/18 with a seminar and am scheduled for surgery on 2/10. Yes, it's fast. Yes, my head is still spinning. But, I've been thinking about this surgery on and off for years! I think I just have a case of nerves. I'm a natural worrier and tend to always second guess myself. I know this will improve my life. I just need to keep that in mind and not let my worry wart nature get the best of me! Take a deep breath, write all the pros and cons down on paper, and talk with your loved ones more. I'm bless, my have been very encouraging. Hugs to you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
