So, I'm one week into my pre-op liquid diet, and I found myslef pretty emotional when the family was having dinner. Emotional and jealous if I'm being honest. Is this normal or am I just being a baby? I'm not sure how I'm going to get through next week. I know I only have 9 days, but it seems like it's a month away.

I suffered quite badly from "food envy" every time my husband would toast some crumpets and I couldn't have any. I would literally burst into tears, which made him feel bad and then I would feel bad for making him feel bad, etc.

I just loved the smell of crumpets and toast with honey, but knew I couldn't have any.

I was both sad and angry and wallowed in self pity every time I couldn't eat something.... but I kept telling myself... "it's not going to be like this forever.... keep your eye on the prize.... you're going to be beautiful again soon", .... and that's what kept me going.

Funny thing.... Two months after my surgery, I toasted a crumpet for myself (which I was REALLY looking forward to) and I found that I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. lol

So do your best to push through the food jealousy.... and remember all the reasons why you're doing this. Also remember that you WILL eat normal food again, but in much smaller portions, which WILL satisfy you.

Also, if you're feeling sad... make yourself a cup of tea, grab a magazine, go out into the sunshine (or take a bath) and try to take your mind off of it.

You WILL be able to do this and after the surgery you will wonder what all the fuss was about because you're going to look and feel fantastic !!!

I wish you all the very best of luck and have a fabulous day !!

Cheers. {:-)

I really struggled for the first couple of weeks. Sometimes, I would just go lay down while the rest of the family are dinner. Now I'm to the point that it doesn't impact me at all.

Perfectly normal. food has been a comfort to us for so long and now we have to go cold turkey. That's a big adjustment.

Yes I struggled that month I was on liquids. I was depressed and angry. My family felt bad for me but they had to eat. I still sat with them and had broth. You will get through it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
