2 months post op - less than 15lbs lost

Recommended Posts

UGH! I'm so frustrated and depressed. I was sleeved on 11/20. Do my best to stay under 50 carbs daily, and most days I'm under 30! Not eating a lot of junk except that one piece of cheesecake I had last night. But literally - staying low carb and healthy. I get plenty of Protein. I go to the gym 3x a week at least. My only problem is my Water intake. Yes, I know it's important, but is that really what's causing me to NOT to lose weight? I mean it's ridiculous. PLEASE HELP!!!!

You didn't say how much you've lost, but by your title you said less than 15 lbs in 8 weeks, so thats just under a lb a week, completely normal, right on track. Did I miss some info ? Sounds like you're doing great, and your body is adjusting slowly. Not everybody looses at the same rate, sometime s your body will lose slow because it wants to becsure its not being starved or deprived. It sounds like you're doing great ! Keep it up !!

How tall are you? What was your starting weight? How much did you lose pre-op? How many calories and how much Protein are you eating? Lots of relevant information.

Are your measurements changing? Clothing sizes getting smaller?

I've been at 295 for about a month. Not losing anything, inches or weight. I'm not measuring my intake - yes I should probably use MFP or something like that but I know that I'm getting in my Protein. The Water yes I struggle with.

If I was losing the 15lbs or so I've lost gradually, a pound a week, ok I could accept that - I'd still be frustrated but at least I would see the scale moving. Is it really a "stall" if you've JUST begun your journey and already not losing? I really don't want to sound mean but "you're doing great" is not what I'm needing to hear because I truly feel I am not doing great because I am not losing pounds or inches.

i know we focus a lot on Protein, but how many calories are you getting in a day. If you don't track how do you know what to fix regarding intake? You mentioned the cheesecake, which is like 400-800 calories depending on size & type. We have a tendency to overeat when we don't track.

The sleeve is just one leg of the stool. The other legs are exercise and intake. I think if you are more responsible and consistent with what you are eating you'll start seeing better results...

Depends. I went into a stall a weeks 2 & 3 after surgery. My weight does a yo yo thing where day to day I may be +\- 2 pounds. Which is why I do not weight daily and I do not compare my journey with someone else.

I think MFP and measuring food is a great idea to get a good picture of where you are. True story- the other day I thought I ate soooo good (sure felt like I didn't eat much that day at all) and went home and plugged it into MFP and my eyes nearly bulged out of my skull!!! It is a real eye opener, especially when you are new at this and learning. Things that I were taught when I was younger that are good for you, truly are, in moderation (this seems to be my problem). I realize now that I never really knew what an actually "NORMAL" portion was and that is where my scales come in handy. I am learning every day! I have not gone through my surgery yet and surely am not portraying myself as any expert, just relaying my personal experience. Hopefully when I get further down this road I won't have to "learn" so much, but my mind is wide open right now :-)

Its definitely normal to go through many stalls which can sometimes last a few weeks. Your body is resisting. I had lots of stalls early on and I was a slower loser than others too. That being said, Its important to track all your calories and Water intake at the early stages so you can see how many calories you are actually eating. I know I was very surprised on the amount of calories I was actually eating vs what I thought I was eating. This is helpful so when you get into the stalls you can see the progress and see when you had the most successful weight loss...what you were eating and doing during those times.

Stalls are very real but if you follow the eating, drinking and exercise plan the scale will move. I agree with everyone who mentions tracking. You really might think you are getting your Protein and staying under carbs but could be way off.

As a first step I would start tracking.

Also, Water makes a huge difference. See what will happen if you try adjusting those two things.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Yes Water is that important. Water helps you feel full, and water also helps your body digest foods better. I also agree that it important watch those macro-nutrients. What's your sodium level? Instead of watching the scale take your measurements (neck/boobs/waist/hips). Sometimes when the scale doesn't move, the body is reshaping itself.

Weight loss rates are dependent on the type of surgery. I had a RNY and experienced rapid rate loss. At the end of 6 months, I bottomed out and have been in maintenance mode for over a year. Those that are sleeved lose weight slower but the weight loss is extended over a longer time. They can achieve the same or even deeper weight loss but over a longer period of time.

Don't get discouraged but just keep on truckin'.

You are similar in height and starting weight to me. I was sleeved on Dec 19, 2014 and lost 19 pounds so far (another 34 preop). I weigh in every day and track everything I eat on losit app. I also struggle with Water. try to get in 10000 steps a day, but there are some where it's only 7500. I have also avoided stalling so far by following 5:2 diet as of week 3 .I aim for 800-900 calories on 5 days a week and less than 500 on 2 days (usually Monday and Thu for me).

I would suggest to start tracking, skip cheesecake and weigh in to see what the pattern is. You will be able to figure out why the scale is not moving.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
