OMG I feel like I am going to die....

Recommended Posts

So I was sitting at work today, I had just ate and walked back to the office, when all of the sudden it felt like someone stabbed me in the stomach (in the area of my band). I started sweating and having to gasp for breath. I immediately called my band doctor. They had closed for the day but she told me to come immediately and she would see what was going on. I made it to the office after having to stop and try and throw up a few times. We went back to the room and within minutes I was running to the bathroom to gag. Nothing came up at this point or before. I have 2.6 cc's and she immediately took out 2. She said nothing was stuck and had me drink to see that the band was in place and the liquid went through fine. She then replaced 1 cc...taking me to 1.6. She said it seemed like I was having spasms. She called in a medication for that and the nausea. It is now 7 hours later and I am still gagging and actually puking and in horrible pain. I have talked to her 3 times and she is not sure what is going on. I told her I was too dizzy to drive the hour back down there this evening and would just see if it got better. She said she would call in the morning to check on me. I had surgery 9/5 and have done just fine until now. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I have no idea what to do.

No, and it sounds terrible. I'm so sorry you're in such misery. I'm surprised she put any Fluid back in when the symptoms are so strong. If it gets unbearable I'd go to the ER for a total unfill unless she's willing to see you again as an emergency. Hope you're feeling better.

Maybe the whole event was a stuck episode that passed the band finally, but also swelled the area and is causing the spasms. Try to relax and only sip tepid Water. Don't get dehydrated and certainly don't eat.

I haven't eaten. She offered to completely unfill it but there was no sign of anything being stuck so I said no. I have been stuck before but it felt nothing like this. Maybe this is stuck in a different place. Who knows. I cannot breath without feeling like I am being stabbed. I can't get comfortable and it is driving me crazy! Thanks for your response.

gallbladder is a common problem for wls. but esophageal spasms are very very painful. liquid Carafate is helpful. but it sounds like you need to have a upper gi. a barium swallow to see what is going on. keep us posted

Well four days in the hospital. Feeling ok but pretty irritated that it took this long to figure out the problem. Looking back I have had gallbladder issues for quite awhile and they could never figure it out. Guess I am happy it is finally resolved. My only issue now it the foods you are supposed to eat with the band (protein and veg) is the opposite of what the doctor told me to eat once the gallbladder is gone (breads, pastas, and stay away from protein). Anyone have a solution?

Wow! Sounds like quite an ordeal you went through. I've had several gall bladder attacks and they are extremely painful. My dr took out my gall bladder the same day I had my lap band put in. I've never heard or read not to eat much Protein when you don't have a gall bladder. I've known several people that have had their gall bladder removed and do low carb high protein diets. My husband is one of them. I wouldn't get too worried about it until you look into it further. It's something I am definitely going to ask my doc about at my checkup this week.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
