Mentor needed for woman who has not had the surgery yet

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Wendy and I am from northeast Massachusetts. I am in the middle of the "tests" phase of this journey. I would love to have a mentor who has gone through the gastric bypass surgeryand has done well. Please write back!

Thank you!

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

I am a little more than 1 year out. I went through more than 1 year of testing. Then a cancel led surgery put it off for another 3 months. I think the waiting is the hardest part. Hopefully you have a support system of family and friends at home. You will need someone there to take care of you for a few weeks until you are up and around. The more Protein and liquids you get in, the faster you will recover. And your Protein Shakes count as liquids also. I'm from western mass. I live in west Springfield. My hospital is bay state medical center. My surgeon was Jay Kuhn. The only issue I had was complete exhaustion for a couple months. But that was because I wasn't getting enough protein in. So make sure you get enough. That, plus sleep will help recovery. So take care and you will do fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
