I don't have PCOS, but I do know that this surgery can make hormones and periods go crazy. Some people have very frequent, long, heavy periods after surgery. Mine have all but disappeared. I wouldn't worry if it's a normal period, but I *would* definitely bring it up to your doctor at your next visit, and maybe bring it up to your gyn too.

Good luck!

I have PCOS, am 38, have had years with no periods, have been somewhat normal since birth of 2nd kid in 2007... Sleeved in October and crazy periods since... One right after surgery, then skipped a month, now seem ready to start early again.

All of the period craziness really messes with scale #s, so keep that in mind.

I dont have PCOS but I have an IUD and rarely get a period and if I do it lasts less than 24 hours and it's spotting ( sorry if TMI)

When I was on my liquid diet pre surgery I got the heaviest period I had in years! and lasted very long. I thought it may have been due to my body changes.

I did get what I think was a Yeast infection post surgery.. my doc said probably cause of antibiotics - didnt last too long! haha sorry another tmi :)

Not familiar with PCOS personally, and I'm menopausal now. But I lost 130 pounds at age 28 over about 18 months. My periods had been infrequent since my first one at age almost-17. That weight loss kickstarted my cycle big time. Heavy, frequent, crampy. I was told that estrogen is stored in fat. When that fat is released, so is a rush of hormones. Anything goes. Hope things even out for you. As for me, I haven't had a period in two years and I was really worried that my recent 100 pound loss would restart it. But so far nope. Glad not to have to repeat the hot flashes and night sweats. Lol. Good luck.

I love these boards because whenever I have a question/issue, I come here and see that others are going thru the same thing.

I'm scheduled for surgery this Wednesday and today I feel like I'm getting my period. My periods are irregular and that's usually due to my weight. When I gain, they go away, when I lose, they come back.

I'm on day 11 of the pre op diet and am down 10 lbs and am now worried that I am getting my period BEFORE surgery.

I've never had surgery before and was wondering if they'll still do it if I currently have my "friend"??

Sometimes I get the feeling and it doesn't come, but I just wasn't sure what would happen w/the surgery.

Thanks everyone!

I have PCOS and an IUD. I have about 2 periods a year that last a couple of days but are so light that you only need pantiliner -- sorry if TMI. But since my surgery 3 weeks ago I have been heavily spotting and cramping on and off for 2 weeks. I was told it was normal and was due to the surge in estrogen from rapid weight loss.

@@kathy0529 Don't worry. Your "friend" will not matter at all. Mine showed up the day before surgery. No problem. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
