Weightloss, meds and blood pressure

Recommended Posts

I've lost 13 lbs in the last month (month 9 VSG). I've noticed I've gotten up during the night and I am extremely dizzy, sick to my stomach and sweating. I have to find somewhere to sit quickly or I'll be on the floor.

I remembered the last time I got refills the Dr told me Seroquel can drop your bp.

So I asked my mom as she deals with low bp. She said that's exactly how it makes her feel. She has a bp cuff and can check.

My bp has always been under the norm. It went up a little 110 lbs ago but not enough to warrant concern.

I cut the seroquel in half last night. Much better!

I just took the other half because I want to sleep.< /p>

Has your meds had to be adjusted (depression meds specifically) to your ever changing weightloss?

Since most medications are based on body weight it is quite possible that your meds will change frequently. You may need to get your levels check with each f/u just to be cautious.

The exact same thing happened to me, with my BP meds...once I started losing, I started feeling really dizzy, and I brought this up to my surgeon and my nutritionist, thinking I'm taking in too few calories or something. My nutritionist suggested I speak to my cardiologist, and he immediately knew what the issue was. My meds were reduced, because I was taking doses based on my weight. Once I adjusted my dosage, I felt so much better!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
