ProjectMe 909 Posted January 16, 2015 Please notify your surgeon, as it is possible to develop pneumonia after surgery. They typically give you one of those mechanisms that you have to breathe in 5-6 times an hour (can't remember what it's called), better to be safe than sorry...so call. BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted January 16, 2015 Did you have to use a spirometer in the hospital? It's a sort of tube with a ball that you breathe into and try to keep the ball in the air? There is a tendency to develop a little congestion post op. Try sitting straight up and inhaling and exhaling a few times a day, particularly in the morning. Also make sure you are walking. You have to expand those lungs so that congestion doesn't take hold. If the cough worsens or last longer than a week call your doctor.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted January 16, 2015 Definitely talk to your doctor, as pneumonia is a real risk after any surgery.
