My name is Synthia McClure I had my surgery on December 30, 2014. My surgeon was Dr. Paul Macik Northside bariatrics. My begging weight was 288lbs. I am in my third week and have lost 28 lbs. My problem is learning how to get my Protein in. I am still only able to eat blended food, but I can only take about four spoons before I am full. I make a protein-shake and can only drink about 4oz. I only get about 8oz o Water. I have been walking about a mile everyday. I need to get a schedule of how and what to eat to get the protein,

If your only drinking 4oz of the shake at a time make sure it's high Protein. I mix a Premier Protein shake (ready made) with one scoop of Syntrax PB cookie protein . It makes about 14oz and has 53 grams of protein. If you could break it up throughout the day you would be doing pretty good.@@smcclur3

You will probably need to set up a schedule to eat every 3 - 4 hours. You need to get in 60+ gms of Protein and 64+ounces of fluids. In between that you need to walk or exercise and take your Vitamins & supplements.

As for updating your profile:

On the webpage scroll to the top and click on the gear symbol next to your user name. Follow the prompts on the pull down menu. You can't get to those settings on the app so if you are on your phone you'll have to use your internet and go to the full version of the site.

Thx guys for your response. They really helped, I started a schedule today and so far I only have 19 gm of Protein. I think I am going to look for that PB cookie protein. Thanks

Try finding some higher protein foods. liquid Protein might be a good option. They typically have at least 15 gms of protein n 4 ounces. That way even if you can't tolerate food just yet you are still meeting your protein and Fluid requirements. 19gms of protein at the end of the day sounds like you're eating empty calories.

Hi everyone -

My name is Diana and my surgery was 11/24/14. I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery for health reasons - diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea were the main reasons. Having no energy and not ever feeling refreshed after sleeping were a couple of the minor reasons. Knowing that, as I get older, I have only myself to take care of me was another big reason.

I started at a bit more than 250 lbs, was 245 lbs on surgery day, and weighed in at 226 lbs on 12/29/14 which was my most recent appointment. I hesitate to use the numbers on my scale because they are quite different than the doctor's scale. However, on my scale today, I weighed 217 lbs. :)

I'm on the "fork tender foods" portion of the diet now. But I still drink 1 or 2 Protein shakes a day to get in my Protein. I'm sort of afraid to eat. My biggest problem has always been that I like the taste of good food, and being from New Orleans, good food can be found EVERYWHERE! Most days I'm not really hungry, I just miss the taste of food - meat loaf, mashed potatoes, corn, fried catfish, potato salad, etc., etc.

I'm trying to find some quick, easy, good tasting recipes for chicken and fish that I can start eating. When I do eat, I don't seem to have an issue as far as how much to eat. I can probably eat a total of about 1/2-3/4 of a cup of food total. I'm satisfied and feel fairly full.

I do, from time to time, crave something sweet. Previously, I loved to eat ice cream. Not every day, but it was one of my weaknesses. I've discovered Cool Whip lite which I eat frozen along with a drizzle of sugar-free chocolate Syrup. A couple of tablespoons does the trick.

I'm looking forward to reading the stories of other "gastric sleevers".

Diana

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
