Surgery was a breeze but......

Recommended Posts

I have to be the only person to have a completely uncomplicated and pain free surgical course and then get sick. Seriously my sleeve surgery was a dream. I had a pleasant and attentive surgical staff. I had a private room in the hospital. I literally had no pain, no nausea, no Constipation, no dizziness, NOTHING. I've tolerated pretty much every food or drink I've tried and have been losing weight steadily. I was up to 4 -5 days exercise at the gym and this week? I get the fricking flu! My ear are killing me! That awful pulling sensation you get because your ears are back up? My throat is scratchy and I have no energy. I am sleeping more now that I did post op! I'm trying to suck it up because I'm not sure how my system would handle antibiotics.

Oh the irony! :(

You wouldn't be prescribed antibiotics for the flu. They are prescribed for infections. The flu is a virus. Just rest and feel better!

Iv'e just recovered from the flu myself. Iv'e been taking amoxicillen and had no issues with it. I also took codeine cough Syrup, and other than sleeping all the time, no bad effects.

That really sucks, sounds like you were doing great. Go to the doctor quick, it can shorten the length of time you have symptoms. They even have a test to see if it's the flu or a respritory infection. Then prescribe the meds. Just tell them when you had your surgery.

Hope you feel better soon! Take care.

Blerdgirl,

No antibiotics for flu, but they have antivirals, like tamiflu. They just have to catch it early. And antibiotics for respiratory infections or sinus infections.

Really, go see your primary care doc. Makes suffering a lot shorter. Did for me. And chicken soup!

Hope you feel better. I had the same flu like symptoms last week for 3 days. The 4 th day I was just about back to my old self. Day 2 was death! Drink as much as possible and see a doctor about that ear. Ear infections can go away on their own but meds will kick it's butt lot faster!

Thanks everyone. I'm pretty sure it's an ear infection since that's the course my colds tend to take. I just can't believe I survived sleeve surgery but it's my stupid ears that have been on the verge of tears!

Would you be able to take decongestants for the ear pain? When I was morbidly obese I had to be careful because my blood pressure was sky high and those send it higher. But it sure helps the ear pain.

@@JustWatchMe I take Zyrtec-D daily for my sinusitis. I don't have high blood pressure. I take flonase if my nasal congestion gets too bad. The ears I usually just have to wait out. Today has been a better day so the pressure is not as bad.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
