Marisa1972 3 Posted January 15, 2015 Hi all! I'm still two months out from my surgery, but I wanted to get some ideas of what to mix my Protein with post-op. Suggestions? Also, for the two weeks prior to surgery, we are required to drink our Protein shakes with Water only - which Protein mix would you suggest? I have a problem with textures, so I'm very nervous that I won't be able to find one I like. Thanks!
Brandalyn 53 Posted January 15, 2015 I never mixed mine with Water, I used soy, almond and regular fat free milk with tons of ice.
BeagleLover 1,020 Posted January 15, 2015 I used powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury mixed with SILK unsweetened soymilk. It has a little more body than skim milk. Great!
joatsaint 2,814 Posted January 15, 2015 I've only drank Premier Protein chocolate and EAS carb control shakes since surgery. I like miine a little thick - and I aleady had an old bag of chocolate flavored Protein Powder in the house - I just toss in 1 scoop of powder (1/2 of a serving size) with the premixed shake. Tastes like a thick silky chocolate milk to me.
ejd1024 72 Posted January 15, 2015 Outside of hood milk (that's the brand) I've mixed mine into shakes certain Soups ( half a scoop) and when I could try mashed potatoes that. There was a recipe to put some in Jello for a dessert but I didn't like the after taste.
Kindle 8,667 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) I mix unflavored Protein powder in everything...soups, broths, mashed potatoes, crab cakes, pancake batter, baked Beans, cream of wheat, etc. The flavored protein powders I mix with milk or Water, depending on the flavor. I like vanilla, chocolate, banana, cake batter and other "creamy" flavors with milk. I use dairy milk for the added protein. I like the fruit flavors like cherry, lemonade, grape, chai tea, and peach mixed with water. Edited January 15, 2015 by Kindle
Marisa1972 3 Posted January 15, 2015 Thanks for your suggestions - keep them coming! I will have to talk to my NUT about mixing it with Water for the 2-week pre-op diet. I have no desire to drink a Protein drink with Water only - hopefully I can use almond milk - or something of that nature.
Foreverblessedx3 16 Posted January 15, 2015 I mix a premier chocolate Protein Shake with 2.5 cups fat free milk and about a half cup of unsweetened almond milk...I try to have this drank by 3-4 pm so I have most of my Protein in and decent start on fluids. I don't like my chocolate milk thick, so this works for me. Premier is the only protein shake I was able to tolerate.
Rovobay 920 Posted January 15, 2015 pretty much just Water with the powdered Protein mixes. my ready to drink Premier Protein is drunk straight.
Addawn 81 Posted January 15, 2015 my favorite tastes like a Mint Chip Milkshake. I use 3/4 c Skim or 1% Milk, teasp. of coco powder (more if you want more chocolate) a couple of drops of mint extract, unflavored Protein powder, and about 6 ice cubes. I put it in my ninja mixer...yum!! I look forward to it!
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted January 15, 2015 I mix my cold Protein Shakes with unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and hot Protein shakes with 50/50 unsweetened vanilla almond milk and Water.< /p> When I was using milk, I used Kroger Carbmaster milk. If you have Kroger grocery stores where you live, you might want to look for it. It has lower calories and carbs, but much higher protein, than regular skim milk, and comes in plain, vanilla, and chocolate.< /p> For shakes mixed with water, I found that the Unjury chicken Soup protein powder was good for savory, and the Syntrax Nectar flavors such as Roadside Lemonade and Twisted cherry were good for sweet. motherof5 364 Posted January 15, 2015 I use EAS vanilla and choclate. With the chocolate I recently added mint extract to it and it was the bomb. The vanilla, I love to add unsweetened coconut flakes, pinapples, water(EAS is very thick to me) and about 1 cup of coconut milk. Blend it in my Nutribullet and it is awesome. Sometimes I would place it in the freezer for a while for a nice little cold treat.
Marisa1972 3 Posted January 15, 2015 These are great suggestions - I'm glad I asked! My husband bought a VitaMix last year and it has only been used a few times...but I have a feeling it will be my new best friend soon!
