Help please, 2 days post op and worried!

Recommended Posts

Hi, my first post so bear with me please if this is stupid. I had some bruising around my port incision and it's been sore, I expected all of this.

My problem is that this afternoon we had a 'family drama' (teenage children) and I think the stress and fatigue of all of this just took it's toll on me and I cried hysterically for about 30 minutes, during this time I kept coughing and felt like I was going to get sick - I didn't though.

My concern is now this evening (after I've calmed down) I notice that my port incision not only is bruised like before but the bruising area has grown by about twice the size and the color has changed from blue (bruise) to red, like fresh blood is pooling under the skin.

Do you think I've done something to my band or am I just overly concerned.

Thanks so much!!

Wow! I hope you're OK? I had some brusing too, but I kept bandages on all my incisions (changed fresh after each shower) and only redness was from rash I developed.

Are you in pain? To be safe, I would put a call in to the Dr - see what they recommend.

Sounds crazy, but you might try using a pen/marker to make a small mark where the area ends.... if, by tomorrow morning, it has spread a great deal over the mark then I would definitely get it checked.

I wonder if a small ice pack on the site would help reduce the contusion.

Sorry you are having to deal with stress in the stressful time - that is all you need.

Definitely call your doctor - it's better to be safe than sorry.

As my doctor said - it's easier to put out a match than a bush fire !!

Best of luck.

The area where the bruise is, did you get a shot of blood thinner in that area? I received the shot in my lower stomach (not an area I check out all the time) and about 4 days after surgery I noticed I had a huge bruise! I asked my mom about it (she's a registered nurse and was with me when I went in for surgery) and she said that the blood thinner does leave you with a big bruise.

I am so sorry to hear about your teenage adventure. Can't even have "me time" at a time like this. I was 6 days post op. and did a very similiar thing! We are not Dr.'s but better safe than sorry and you should call. Hope life will be easier for you. We are hear for lots of shoulders to cry on and ears to listen with.

Always check with your doctor if you have concerns....however, my port went through several changes in the first couple of weeks.

Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
