12thman 7 Posted January 14, 2015 I'm on day 3 of 10 clear liquid diet, and I'm gaining weight. Normally 202-204 but day 3 started at 210. I've been drinking 3 Protein shakes a day, sugar free Jello and home made broth. What gives? Dr. wants to see wight loss. Surgery on 8 days.
ProjectMe 909 Posted January 14, 2015 I tend to gain weight if my calories are too low, if I consume too much salt or artificial sweeteners, if I don't drink enough Water, if I don't get some exercise in, if I'm constipated... So to help with some of above, I track my diet/liquids/exercise using my fitness pal app...so I have a better understanding of my body.
12thman 7 Posted January 14, 2015 They want me to shrink my liver. I need to drink more Water. I know my calorie intake are low, by how much I normally eat before the diet.
samuelsmom 670 Posted January 14, 2015 Checking labels for sodium content may be a good idea. Some broths are loaded with salt. You may also want to make sure your scale is accurate. If none of those, I would recommend calling the doctor's office. It sounds like you may be retaining Fluid as a large weight gain in a very short period of time is indicative of that. Also, may want to clarify if you are actually to have Clear liquids for 10 days; most pre-op diets are full liquids. Clear Liquids are common the day or 2 before surgery. BryBro63 410 Posted January 14, 2015 Also some of the Protein Shakes can be calorie-heavy...take a look at the ones you're drinking and see what you're taking in.
12thman 7 Posted January 14, 2015 I'll double check the scale in the morning, my first weigh in of the day. The orders are 10 days clear liquid us 3 Protein Shakes a day, I'm following it exactly. Your right about sodium content, I've started to make my own broth yesterday and not adding any salt.
12thman 7 Posted January 15, 2015 204 this morning not to shabby. I think the store bought broths have worked their way out of my system. So much sodium in them. The Protein that I use is made by Syntrax. Peanut Butter cookie is awesome. 150 calories, 23 g protien, and 6 carbs, Pretty good.
