2 days until surgery

Recommended Posts

I have surgery on Friday and my emotions are crazy. I'm scared, sad, excited etc. can anybody tell me what I should bring other than the regular stuff that I may not think to bring?? Of course I started my monthly cycle too. Does anybody think that could pose a problem. Sorry if that's TMI. Just can't believe this is really going to happen. I'm so nervous.

I go tomorrow, so I'm right there with you QueenieB!

I bringing my phone, headset and charger.

Chapstick, gas-ex strips, a pillow for the ride home and little maternity belly bander

And a book for the 2 hour wait before surgery.

The hospitals have everything else in terms of toiletries.

Tell the prep nurse/tech and they will supply you with pads. Or whatever they want you in.

Girl, your whole body is about the be cut open, I don't think there is a such thing as TMI...LOL :)

Good luck!!

In addition to what @@MisforMimi packed, I also brought a heating pad. It was great comfort. I also brought my hairbrush and a headband to pull it back, my ipad for reading after surgery, and some knitting for the wait before surgery.

I didn't buy gas-x until a few days after surgery, but they were completely necessary by about day 3. I bought chewable (cherry flavored) because we couldn't find the cinnamon-flavor strips anywhere and I hate peppermint. You should be able to find them at any drug store.

@@lucky2014, let no-one mistake that this is major surgery. From my vantage point, bigger than the sleeve. I unexpectedly experienced quite a bit of pain, but it was well managed at the hospital. Everyday gets easier.I thought I would just pop up and that has not been the case. The hardest parts are getting in an out of bed. I get to leave tomorrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
