It was normal for me, after surgery. I had a lot of pressure in my chest - from the leftover gas. I was dozing on and off between the nurses taking me for walks and/or checking my blood pressure.

I was hitting the morphine button like I was trying to win a prize on a game show! Hang in there, it does get better. I promise. :)

Best way I can describe Day 1 is that it sucks. Day 2 is better & Day 3 was night and day. I know you probably don't feel up to it, but walking even for just a little bit helps move the gas...hope you feel better!

The pain you are feeling is from the gas they put into your abdomen cavity before surgery. To make it better, stop taking the pain medicaiton and WALK, WALK, WALK. It took me three/four days before it was finally gone. I thought I was having heart problems, but it was not.

Just relax and breathe......................

I think I even wrote my own post about how miserable I was the first two days. It sucks cause you can't roll over or adjust to get comfortable. Besides the pain you're just plain uncomfortable. It does get better though, I promise. Every day is a little bit better. One day you'll realize you don't have to stand up using weird angles because you don't have pain anymore, or you can bend over without cussing at gravity, or you can lay on your side or stomach without pain. BUT, it takes time to get there so take it day by day. The best part is while you are in all this pain, the pounds will be shedding off your first three weeks so you have something exciting to look for right away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
